It’s years since I did any jumping through those hoops
Thanks for giving me a push. I just verified two other of my free WordPressdotcom sites through the meta tag option on Google and Bing after copying and pasting the tag given by each service into the line on the Traffic dashboard. Sitemaps and everything. So I’m not sure why @theworkhousemysteries is encountering such difficulties.
The Traffic dashboard gives the link that should be submitted.

@theworkhousemysteries just to confirm, in your Google Search Console for the site, do you see www currently?
If you do, please remove that. Your site address does not include www. Fixing that should help resolve most of the issues, and we can work on any that are left.
