  I just want to set up jetpack and akismet, but not have to transfer to wordpress.com.
  I need an account here, but I want to keep my site on my own server and use my own DNS.

  you won’t need to transfer your site to WordPress.com, you’ll just need to connect it to your WordPress.com account:
