  Hello!
  I posted my first blog yesterday, but have no idea how to find others, topics I am interested in, friends, groups, how to “follow” a blog, or other wise.
  I’m about as green as they come (not with computers or applications, but with blogging).
  If someone would be so kind as to give me a little boost up I would be so grateful.

  A good way to locate blogs on topics that interest you is to use our Global Tag listings, which are explained here – http://support.wordpress.com/global-tags/

  So, if you really dig the band Pearl Jam, for example, you could find some blogs here –

  http://en.wordpress.com/tag/pearl-jam/

  When you categorize/tag your own posts, they will also be placed into these listings so that others can find you, as well.

  You can also use the Tag Surfer in your dashboard – http://support.wordpress.com/tag-surfer/

  There are no de facto group/friends settings in WordPress.com, however.
