I'm old but not smart…downloaded free theme but how to install? Do I need FTP?

  Sorry, looking at your above question, I don’t buy the “not smart”. :)

  Sites hosted on WordPressdotcom can use any of the 350+ free and premium themes found in our Theme Showcase https://wordpress.com/themes/ but no others. Here’s more on that https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/

  We do not have FTP access to our sites on WordPressdotcom. More on that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
