Do you mean why did the subscription come up as a WP one and not an email one?
If a user signs up by e-mail–even when they are logged out of WordPress, they will show up as a WordPress.com follower if they use an e-mail address connected to a WordPress.com account.

In that case it is still only people with WP accounts which trigger the reaction. That I know as I’ve have plenty of people subscribe since the issue last occurred.

Liz now something else odd has cropped up just today.
Twice today I have commented on my site from my phone, the name which comes up on the site is ‘admin’, which is the guy who does any work that needs doing and the email address is listed is his?
I just looked at the App log in and it’s mine? -
That is odd. Could you log out of your site on the phone, both in the browser and the app and log back in?
I know you said you were logged in as you, but it sounds like the app was confused and that will help clear things up.

I am not signed in on a browser.
Signed out and in again on my phone/website and now all my Stats have gone missing.

Deleted the App, downloaded it and it was as bad as before.
I did that 3 times and it’s finally OK

That was very odd. I signed out of the App once before and had to re-download it as it would let me in again?
Any how it’s sorted now.
I am just waiting on the outcome of the original issue, just out of interest.
I must say that everyone on WP is extremely helpful and polite and I thank you all very much for that. What a shame Facebook don’t take a few lessons from you guys.

I definitely understand. These emails would get old after awhile. We’re still working on getting this resolved. We’ll report back as soon as this is fixed up.

I’ve just been subscribed with no one else subscribing today.

Did you happen to receive any new comments during this period? I’m wondering if someone clicking “Notify me of new comments” when they comment on your site would trigger the same behavior.

WordPress don’t list the date when someone subscribes to comments, so I wouldn’t know Jeremey.
I wish there was a way to delete WP blog followers when the accounts no longer exist.

Hi @sfinn2013,
It looks like you actually did receive a pending subscription on April 4th that matches the same time your subscription email was triggered so I believe this is the culprit here. You didn’t receive a notification of the new follower because they’ve haven’t confirmed their subscription just yet.
Did you happen to receive a comment on April 4th on your self-hosted site? If so, could you copy and paste the email address(es) of the commenter(s) here? Please note, the email address will appear redacted in the forums, but it will be visible to staff.
To recap, we believe that the following is happening:
1. User comments
2. When commenting, user selects options to get notified of future posts
3. That option subscribes you as well regardless of whether or not they confirm their subscription.
