I paid not to have ads, but I’m still getting ads. What’s with that?

What kind of ads are you seeing? Many times, you may have a browser add-on/extension that is adding the ads to your site and not coming from us.
If you could, please take a screenshot and upload it to your media library. Instructions are at Making a screenshot. I’m happy to check it out and help confirm where these ads are coming from.

To be clear— the ads are the underlined words in the text?
That is not from WordPress.com—we don’t like ads like that and aren’t good for anyone, frankly. Our ads are almost always after a post (except on a few themes that have built-in areas better suited for an ad) with a link to a WordPress.com site explaining the ads.
In Firefox, use the Tools->Add Ons menu button. You’ll see a list of Extensions and Add-Ons. I’d place money that one of them is causing these embedded ads.

No – the underlined words in the text aren’t the issue – that’s me. It’s the video box at the bottom with a Pepcid ad. It’s clearly a WordPress.com ad, and I’m paying not to have ads.

Hi there, you applied for (and were accepted into) the WordAds program on May 18 of this year. You can fully control the display of your ads, and view your Earnings so far, via Settings -> WordAds in your blog’s Dashboard.
It looks you’re due to receive a payout this month if you complete your WordAds settings there.

Oh, this is so screwed up. I did the WordAds thing without really understanding what it was, then saw the ads and thought oh, to heck with it and paid to not have ads. Now I’ve earned all this money I might as well collect it, but now the WordPress site refuses to accept my SS# so there’s no way to finish the sign up process. I’ve tried 6 times!

Is there some way I can call someone and give them my SS#? The software is all screwed up.

And I would sign up for the 2-step authentification, but it looks hopeless complicated and I’m afraid it would only lock me out and I’d end up stuck writing you all day trying to get back in.
As for Misty Look changing into Misty something-or-other – it’s been telling me that for months now but I really don’t want to risk the appearance of my blog fiddling with it at the moment.

Okay – I “upgraded” like I was told to Misty Lake (or whatever) and now I’ve lost my header and don’t know how to get it back. Other than taking my money, what the hell is going on at WordPress?!?!?!? My blog is falling apart and I have a major post and I’m expecting 1,000’s of view in a matter of hours?!?!?!?

Okay – I just spent $30 to get my blog looking exactly the way it used to look. Will it cost another $30 to remove the ads that I’m now getting paid to have? Another $30 to get you to accept my SS# so I can get paid? Another $30 to sign up for whatever the hell security thingie I’m getting bugged to sign up for and that looks insanely complicated?

Please explain why “Misty Lake” suddenly costs $30/year for the same thing.

I can’t figure out how to change the header in Misty Lake and I can’t figure out how to get back to the old Misty Look! This is a nightmare – I need to post in an hour!!! And I just paid yet ANOTHER $30 for a useless nightmare from WordPress!!!!!

oh, and whoever is designing your new software and making it increasingly complicated and confusing – could he at least put “DASHBOARD” up in the upper lefthand corner where it used to be so I don’t get lost – and make it so the site stops launching in a new window every 5 minutes?!? It’s maddening to try to navigate nowadays. Never used to be this way. Used to work sooooo much better.

I’d like to help you out here.
First of all, could you explain what you still need to do with the theme itself? I see a header image, and the site is running Misty Look, so were you able to sort those issues out?
Next, if you still wish to run WordAds on your site, you should be able to insert your SSN/Tax ID number here:
https://thepeoplestherapist.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=wordadsBe sure to click the button at the bottom to “save WordAds settings” after you’ve entered your number. If it doesn’t accept your information, please let me know if you get any error messages. You might also try entering the number without any dashes.
As far as your upgrades go, it looks like you currently have a custom domain and Custom Design on your blog. I see a refund has been processed on our end for the No Ads upgrade, and those funds should show up in your account within a few days.

The error message I have received 27 times when I try to insert my SSN number is: “Error saving SSN / Tax id. Please try again.”
I cancelled the no-ads. I signed up for the upgrade to Misty whatever-it’s-called, then cancelled it when I realized I didn’t need to upgrade and it was super-complicated.
If I could just get it to take my SSN and not give me that error message, it would be a great help.

When you enter your SSN, are you entering it with or without dashes?
Also, do you have cookies enabled in your browser?
