I'm trying to build a wordpress site for podcast

  • Unknown's avatar

I have at this for 10 hours straight now and I am kinda going crazy.
I am just trying to create a wordpress site for a podcast and get it on itunes.
    Here’s my site: http://jtfilmcast.com/2015/02/10/3/
I’m hosting the audio on archive.com and embedding it on the page through the “Ogg Vorbis” link that pops out an audio file in a separate tab. I copy that link onto the wordpress page and put it in brackets.

So everything I’ve read says I need to use feedburner to translate the wordpress so that it can go to itunes, but every single time I get the error “Not a valid XML file.”
I have searched and searched and tried different versions of everything I can think of to no avail.

    Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also, does anyone have an email for support? I found they don’t have phones, but surely someone in service has an email address where they can be reached?

    Thanks in advance.

Could you let me know what URL you’re inserting into Feedburner (step #5 here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/#submit-to-feedburner)?

Yep! You can always reach us at help@wordpress.com.

    Hi Jeremy!
    Thanks for the response!

The URL I enter into feedburner is:
    http://jtfilmcast.com/category/podcast/feed/

    Thanks.

Some additional info just in case it is helpful in solving this problem.

Very strange, but today feedburner seems to be recognizing the wordpress site. I can even get itunes to ready all the data from feedburner. I can “add the podcast” from the instructions that itunes gives to test you website and podcast. But no actual audio file shows up.

Just for the hell of it, I tried submitting the podcast to itunes. I enter this link as the URL:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheJTfilmcast
and I get this error: “we had difficulty downloading episodes from this feed”

I looked up this error message and found one answer saying to add a clickable download link on the podcast page my copying the audio file link and pasting it as a clickable link. I’ve added this and tried going through all the steps again but it didn’t help.

Thanks again for the help, Jeremy. I’ll be back online today around 1:30PM EST. Maybe we can figure this out then!

    Best

    I also found this:

    Archive.org issues
Archive.org can be used to host podcast audio files but archive.org uses re-directs on the file paths it publishes – this confuses WordPress, and consequently, the Podcast publication fails (missing enclosure tag error).

To avoid this error, if you are hosting your audio files on archive.org, you need to add a Custom Field called “enclosure” and paste the full url for the mp3 file in the Value field.

I have no idea how to add a custom field called “enclosure.” Maybe this would solve the problem? I’m so lost.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Howdy Tyler,

The good news is that iTunes appears to be recognizing your feed. I was able to submit your feed on iTunes and temporarily subscribe to your podcast as shown here:

    http://d.pr/i/1lKFw

There isn’t an option to create a custom field at WordPress.com so I don’t think that bit of instruction is helpful in our situation.

Could you try replacing the URL you’re using with the following?

    https://ia801500.us.archive.org/2/items/101whiplash/101whiplash.mp3

I’m wondering if that download URL is causing an issue.

You are spot on Jeremy! Moments before you sent this I discovered it was in fact the URL. I tried the direct link to the mp3 on archive.com by viewing the pages source code and then I used that on WordPress. I also deleted the link to soundcloud.com just in case for some weird reason that was causing a problem. The mp3 is also now showing up for me and iTunes let me submit it!

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.
