I'm trying to embed a YouTube video into my post, and it's not working
-
I followed the instructions given here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/
I copied the URL and pasted it in the Visual Editor. It simply shows me the plain text of the URL as opposed to a video display or even a hyperlink.
Please help.

Hi there,
Here is a useful link for troubleshooting embeded links . It sounds like your embeded link may be hyperlinked.
Hope this helps
-
Thanks, but this didn’t help. As I said earlier, the links I pasted aren’t hyperlinked. They’re just plain text, like this:
And it’s also in its own line, so that’s not the issue.

Hi there!
Are you in the HTML editor instead of the Visual? In HTML editor, only plain text will show, like you mentioned. I uploaded your video in a test post, using the link you shared, and it worked for me. If you do happen to be in HTML, select Visual and try pasting your link again.
I hope that was the issue! Let me know if it still doesn’t work for you.

Thanks Adina, but that’s not the issue. I’m working in the visual editor, and it’s not working.
-
Hey there! I tried a test too, and when I’m in the editor it looks plain text, but when I actually publish it shows the video in my post.
Have you gone all the way through the publish phase to see what it looks like once live?
Hope that helps! Please post again if it’s still not working.
-
No, I didn’t publish it yet, but I did preview, where it shows plain text. I will try it out, thanks.

Have you tried to uploading the link with the HTML editor? In the HTML editor, click on the link button in the toolbar. From there, enter the URL and Link Text. You can also choose whether or not you’d like the link to open up in a new window/tab. In your post, it will show up as a clickable link to the video.
Did that work?
Fingers crossed!

Adding a hyperlink isn’t the problem though, I can do that if I want. I’m trying to embed the video to help the aesthetic of the post.
-
Hello,
Using the HTML editor like Adina is suggesting will allow you to embed the video properly. Do you need help figuring out how to do this?
-
-
-
To begin, do you have a Premium Plan? That is the requirement to be able to embed video and audio directly.
-
Wait, are you sure about that? I don’t have a premium plan, but I’ve embedded videos before. Maybe we mean different things when we say “embed directly”?
-
Sorry, that was about media.
In order to embed your link, click on the HTML editor (it should be next to your video editor). When you get the URL from YouTube make sure you get the HTML code. You will know it is HTML if it has an “iframe” tag .
<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/KiS8rZBeIO0″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
-
*should say visual editor not video.
Once you paste the iframe tag with the URL into he HTML editor, when you go back to the visual editor your video should appear :)
I just did this on my own site to make sure it works
-
I just tried it, and when I went back to the visual editor, it showed me this text instead of an embedded video:
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7O7BtBnsG4&w=560&h=315%5D
-
Actually, I just checked the preview, and the HTML method works. Thank you so much, everyone.

Hello,
As a follow up to this, I have just come across information that I was not previously aware of.
Flash and Other Embeds
Flash and other types of embed that use; frame, iframe, form, input, object, text area are not allowed in WordPress.com posts, pages, or text widgets.
For security reasons, we remove the tags needed for these to work. Your intentions may be innocent, but someone somewhere might try to use such embeds to damage the site, affecting all of our users.
There are several safe ways to post Videos, Audio, and other items to your WordPress.com blog. In addition, the Embedding content page lists the various types of embeds that are allowed.
I found this information here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
I thought I should forward this information along to you, as the HTML tag I suggested is NOT allowed on WordPress.com. I apologize for my incorrect reply to your question.
I also came across this little snippet of information in the original link that you had posted where you had tried the steps to embed the YouTube video https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/
Note: You must use the full link, not a shortlink, for the video to be embedded.
Did you use the full link and not the shortcode? I know you had stated that it definitely was not hyperlinked.
-
I did use the full link, and it didn’t work.
Also, what they say there is exactly what happened. When I used the iframe URL, it automatically removed the tag.
Speaking of which, I should also mention that this method works for me even if I directly use that URL in the visual editor.
