I’m trying to map a domain and it’s forcing me to buy a plan
-
I just want to map my domain name to my FREE WordPress account however every time I try to do so through the WordPress admin interface it forces me to choose a monthly plan. I do not want a monthly plan. I just want to pay the small annual fee to have my domain mapped to this account. The domain is hosted at another registrar and I’d like to keep it there. There seems to be a bug in the WordPress system because on one hand it’s telling me it’s possible to map a domain without a monthly plan, but on the other hand no matter how I try doing it , it forces me to choose a monthly plan which costs upwards of $80 per year. In reality it should only be charging me the $13 as advertised

Hi there,
I learned recently that each paid/upgrade plan comes with a Custom Domain Name credit that you can use to register a new domain, or to transfer or map a domain you already own.
Mapping your domain only requires a fee if you already have upgraded to a paid plan *and* have used the free domain credit. If you are looking at this page for instructions:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
it states that “You will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map a domain.”I hope this helps you understand why it’s adding the upgrade.
