I'm unable to save my blog to a flashdrive

  • Unknown's avatar

I have two wordpress blogs but no computer, so I use computers at three different libraries. At one library I was able to save one of my blogs on my flashdrive as a word document. However, when I try to save the second blog on the flashdrive, I get a notice that reads: THIS BLOG CAN’T BE SAVED. I have gotten this notice at two libraries so far. I don’t know if this is due to different computer systems, or something else. I searched the dashboard of the blog that refuses to be saved, to see if perhaps there was some box I had checked to prevent saving, but could find nothing. Using three different systems complicates this problem. If anyone may know the answer to this problem, please write as simple of an explanation as you can, with as little computer jargon as possible, because I am a novice with computers.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Can you please share the exact steps that you’re taking before that notice appears? Also, does the notice appear when you are working in Word or when you’re working in your blog’s dashboard at WordPress.com?

Actually, various librarians have tried to do this, and one person was a “computer expert” who is a volunteer at the library to help with tech problems, which leads me to surmise that the problem is complicated. We click: SAVE to Kingston. Sometimes the notice pops up then, or sometimes it actually saves to the flashdrive, but when one goes to look at it on a computer not connected to the Internet, and one clicks on the item on the flashdrive, then a notice: THIS CANNOT BE VIEWED pops up. I can tell you that we were NOT working through the dashboard. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Hi there,

Thanks for that explanation. Can you make a screenshot of the screen when you get that error? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy. That will help me understand where the error is coming from so I can see if it’s something I can help resolve for you. :)

I’m going to have to find someone to help me to make the screenshot. My tech skills are very weak and all self-taught. In the meantime, can you tell me why there are no subscribers in the little box on the page that says: SIGN-UP FOR THIS WEBSITE? I know I have a few subscribers. In the five and a half years I have had this bLOg, only for a couple of months last summer was there a number in the subscriber box. That number was 33. After a few months the box went blank again. I asked for help here at the time, but no-one was able to answer my question.

We have some tips for making the screenshot here, if it helps:

Do you mean the box in the bottom right (when you’re logged out of your WordPress.com account) that says “Follow”? Or a different box on the page?

Yes, I mean the “Follow” box. I have not been able to find someone to help me with the screenshot. I tried to do it on my own, but I could not get the blog and the dashboard on the computer screen at the same time. If I manage to do this, where on the dashboard would I find screenshot?

    Hi there,

Yes, I mean the “Follow” box.

Thanks for confirming. That follow box will only show how many people subscribe to your blog if the blog has at least 25 subscribers. (At that point, the subscriber count will show up in that box automatically.)

It’s ok if not everything is included in the screenshot at the same time. What’s most important is that the notice that pops up is in the screenshot. If you’re using Windows, you can use the “Print Screen” button to capture everything that’s on the screen when that notice appears.

Then, you can continue with the steps here to save that screenshot:

    Take a Screenshot

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thank you. That was very puzzling to me. I guess at one time I had 33 subscribers, and then at least 9 un-subscribed.

A person who knows wordpress told me I could back-up my blog on my flashdrive by using the EXPORT option on the dashboard, and I was able to do so. However, I really want to save it as a word document. This person is trying to figure out why it worked before (on my other blog) but will not on this blog. I’m waiting to hear back from him. Since I have not been able to save the screenshot, I’ll wait to try the screenshot again if I can’t get help from my other source. Thanks
