I’m VERY disappointed with Automattic
-
I just read https://www.404media.co/tumblr-and-wordpress-to-sell-users-data-to-train-ai-tools/
I see you folks are about to sell my personal data to AI. Disappointing for *anyone* and most especially for WordPress. I shall as soon as possible figure how to move my blog off WordPress. And if so advisable, avoid Automattic endeavors altogether.
Sad.

Hey there,
Please check out our post regarding the content you share. If you do not wish to have your content shared with our third-party partners, you can opt-out in settings by visiting Settings > General and enabling Prevent third-party sharing. This setting excludes your site’s public content from our network of partners.
We hope you will still consider us for your digital journeys.

So it prevents the tracker from scraping our site, but what is to prevent Automattic from just giving them the data outside of website scraping? Selling it in a big bundle?
It also says “Activating the “Prevent third-party sharing” feature excludes your site’s public content” – what about private content?
It also prevents our posts from being accessed in Reader so we can’t get new readers through that feature.
All around disappointing. -
Hey there,
Let me respond to each of your questions individually.
So it prevents the tracker from scraping our site, but what is to prevent Automattic from just giving them the data outside of website scraping? Selling it in a big bundle?
We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from WordPress.com and will continue to do so, with the exception of our partners. This setting prevents your data from being included when we share data with our third-party partners.
It also says “Activating the “Prevent third-party sharing” feature excludes your site’s public content” – what about private content?
This is a great question. Private content is already excluded from being shared with third-parties.
It also prevents our posts from being accessed in Reader so we can’t get new readers through that feature.
Can you clarify which setting you are referring to?
I hope this answers some of your questions.
