image blank in post and media library
-
Hi DesignSimply, thanks for checking things out.
I’m based in England and my ISP is PlusNet but my husband has looked into it from the sofa opposite me and like you it all appears to be fine on his laptop so no problem with our connection. I’ve done a screen grab of what I see (which is no banner or images on any posts).Tried https instead of http and that seems to have cracked it (in Chrome and Firefox at least). Media library no longer blank, header banner appeared instantly and then images finally after about 3 minutes trying to load. Hooray, thanks for that – I can cope with slow if they show up at least and quite happy with Chrome so not bothered if it’s blank still in Safari!

@nicmoorey, I tried reproducing the problem, but I could see images working. I can see the lion picture and the header image at http://nipitinthebud.wordpress.com/
One of our systems guys also tried checking images and everything looks good to us here on the server side at WordPress.com.
So, if the images/site works fine from one computer and not another in the same location, that could indicate a browser or software setting of some kind is the culprit. Are you running the same OS? Do you have the same type of anti-virus and/or firewall software installed?

I am based in the UK, and I do use Plusnet, so this does seem to be a common thread with this problem.

First, find the URL of an image that is not working for you and open it. If you have the Firebug add-on installed for Firefox, go to Page Speed → Resources and click the arrow to the left of the images so you can see the response headers. It looks like this: http://d.pr/h7BU
I tried this, but the problem seems to be that, as the images won’t load, one can’t analyse and get any headers (wouldn’t that only work if the image can be downloaded?). For example, I get this with one image I can’t load:
http://janetgranger.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/heart-and-wings-cloth1.jpg?w=500&h=335

Request Headers -
Right, seeing the failed request still gives useful information. So, looking at what you posted, it has this line: “X-Cache MISS from pcl-iwfcache03.plus.net” and it also mentions “Server squid”. Squid is a caching server used by internet providers. So, the errors in what you posted show that the problem is happening through your ISP before you can even get a chance to reach the WordPress.com servers. Please contact your network administrator and let them know their caching servers are not working properly. Sending the response headers showing the 502 error would be helpful to them.

Me too!
I got a reply saying they’d escalated it to “another team” for investigation. If two of us have raised it, it may mean they take it seriously – I certainly hope so.

This is now happening to me I’m on virgin media but i don’t really see how all of a sudden 3-4 different isp’s are all doing the same and causing the same problems.
this has to be down to WordPress.com image servers there is no other explanation.
this started 3 days ago for me before then everything is and was fine.now all of a sudden there is more and more people experiencing this issue.
For the Engineers here try this.
1.) upload a picture large small doesn’t matter then post it in the editor.
either 2 things will happen. the image will instantly show up or you will get
a small icon image showing no icon is shown,2.) go to the location of that image direct location you will notice the
image will either load straight away or the browser will sit there trying and trying to load up the image on the page, this is happening intermittently i can wait 10 mins then all of a sudden the
image in the editor will appear, sometimes much quicker even instant but more times than none now it takes up-to 20 mins for the picture to show up!!!this is not an ISP problem it cannot be!
-
and don’t just try to add an image once it instantly show in the editor then say nope works fine, try adding about 20-30 different images separately until you see exactly what we all mean, this is a total hit and miss, sometimes it shows instantly sometimes it shows 10 mins later, or sometimes not even at all.
then you delete the image from the editor, go back to library re-add it in.
then 9/10 times it shows straight away now when you re-add it twice.it’s so frustrating added 6 images on the go all instant showed up in the editor.
then i add 3-4 more images a few mins later same issue no image icon 14px by 14px or something like that. -
@xpression2k, we have tested our servers and we couldn’t find any problems on our side. The images are being served properly. We’re always happy to help test and keep digging though! Providing testing steps is good. I re-tested using the steps you provided and the images I add always work for me. Also, the images other people have mentioned also all work for me when I check them. Could you please post an example link to an image which is not working for you? And, could you please provide the response headers for a broken image from your location so we can see the server response from your side? my images are loading fine now. I’m now persuaded, that for my problem at least, there’s an issue with my ISP’s servers or some connection here in the house as streaming of videos and some other web pages is really slow. Will report back if I get any suggestions from PlusNet.
-
@xpression2k response headers would be better than a video. A video doesn’t show how the traffic is routing from your network, and that’s the important thing in this case.

I would like to thank everybody for their replies on my question. I will go through every reply, and let you know what helped.
I am just very busy trying to do a race for persons in wheelchairs, in the Nature Reserve ( my problem blog: jenniesplace, is about this reserve), on the 27th August.
I hope we get enough people to join in this Walk and Roll Challenge, for the disabled.
Thanks for all your help. -
I am so sorry, I cannot be at my computer, beacause I am busy working to do a race for the disabled, tomorrow. I will have to look at this on Monday…with my son, I did not know that I would get so much information, from so many people so soon.
I do thank all of you….will talk on Monday, please. -
well the last 2 days now everything has been working great! i have not changed a setting my isp is the same, it’s just magically fixed like other members are also reporting.
this issue was not with our isp’s it couldn’t be since virgin, plusnet, 02, bt and behere are all different providers, and reports was coming in from people all over.
what ever the problem was it seems to have been fixed for now.
