Image Block – Defaults

  • Unknown's avatar

Is there a way to bring back defaults for the image block. For example, I want all single images to be centered and linked to the media file. This used to be a feature back in the classic editor and now in block editor it requires additional steps which isn’t terrible for a single image, but when a post has a number of images, this becomes a tedious task.

  • Hi there!

It’s not possible to change the default settings for each block.
If you add numerous images to your site, try the Gallery Block instead.

You can also have a look at the Reusable Block which will allow you to create template of sorts:

Gallery blocks are great when I want to share multiple photos in the same spot, but more often I use single images in a post. I don’t see why this feature cannot be returned as previous versions always kept your last used settings.

I tested a reusable single image block using a default image. While it did retain the centered and linked to media file settings, it required multiple clicks to convert to a block and then replace the image.

  • For now, the reusable blocks seem to be the best way forward as you have described. I’m happy to add your feedback as a request for our team to consider in the future.

Just want to be clear, the reusable block is not an option for me as it does not save any time. In fact, it takes longer. However, the reusable block would be an adequate solution if I used the same image over and over, but this is not the case.

  • Thanks for the clarification. We’ll make sure to report this request internally.

    Thanks!
