image caption and alt text changes disappears

I have just spent several hours adding carefully adding image caption information to my media library in a single, and rather tedious sitting. I have now found that it has all vanished.
Can you help me understand the cause of the problem and help to solve it? I’m absolutely gutted as I do not have time to do this again, and certainly don’t want it to happen several more times. The captions are crucial.WP.com: Yes

Thanks for getting in touch. Looking at the site I can see that it used to be hosted through us at WordPress.com. The site is no longer hosted through us so we don’t have any access to it for troubleshooting.
Unfortunately, not every host is going to provide help with your WordPress installation.
Looking at that site I can see it’s hosted on dns.de. It’s not using our managed hosting environment from WordPress.com.
For help, I would contact them first. Otherwise, there’s a volunteer network available for folks who run their own WordPress installations, which is how you’re set up. That is available at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
