image captions are wonky in colinear
-
I have an image heavy site with many pages. My theme is Colinear, which changed last year because the old theme was retired.
Three pages that I completed last year have captions in a light grey with a line below, left justified. Wonderful, I like this. [1952, 53 and 54]
The captions in the pages I did this year are wonky, i.e., they are in the page text and centered. Not nice!
I can’t figure out how to fix this. Maybe it’s a function of the theme, or maybe it’s how I inserted the images, which is usually “insert image from computer”.
Also, some of the images lack the little pencil logo to enable editing, but some have it. I don’t get it.
What am I doing wrong?
Good caption page example (1952): https://nbstearmans.com/timeline-of-stearmans-in-new-brunswick-and-other-provinces-1952-to-1973/1952-the-first-year/
Bad caption page (1956): https://nbstearmans.com/timeline-of-stearmans-in-new-brunswick-and-other-provinces-1952-to-1973/1956-2/
Oh, ignore the tiled groups; they’re ok.

Hi there,
I am not sure what’s going wrong with your site editor.
But regarding the captions:
There must be some difference if you are copying the caption content, alternatively try aligning the text to left alignment by using the paragraph editor.
Similarly to add a line below make use of the separator block, which will give your post the look which you want.
You can read more about the blocks here:
Paragraph block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/paragraph-block/
Separator block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/separator-block/Hope this solves your issue to some extent!
Cheers!

Hi there,
This is a known issue with this theme, and is because you created one page in the classic editor, and the other one in the block editor.
The block editor uses a different kind of HTML for image captions than the classic editor used to, but older themes, like Colinear, hasn’t been updated to support styling for the type of captions the block editor inserts.
I’ve added your report to the bug report we already have open for this, but I can’t guarantee that this is something that will be fixed.
I notice you update your pages periodically, so my suggestion in this case would be to update all your existing pages to blocks. That way the captions will at least be consistent across your site.

Would changing to a different theme solve all these problems? Would I then have to change the pages created earlier to blocks, no matter if I changed the theme?

Hi there,
Whether you stick with your current theme or switch to a current theme that is more compatible with the block editor, if you originally created your page in the classic editor, you will receive a prompt to convert each of your pages to blocks:
Therefore, yes, you will need to update each of your pages and convert theme to blocks individually.
