Image captions end up as “titles”

    Dear WPers,

I am having problems with the captions of my uploaded photos. I give all my photos captions using picasa, which writes the caption text to the IPTC section of the jpg file – I have confirmed this using various IPTC viewers. When I upload the file to wordpress.com, however, the caption stored in IPTC ends up as the “title” of the image and the “caption” of the image in the wordpress media library is the filename – this creates havoc when you have a slideshow or gallery with 50 or so pictures.

This problem only seems to have popped up in the last week – prior to that, the IPTC caption in the jpg file propigated through correctly to the wordpress caption in the media library.

Can anyone else confirm this problem? Or suggest a fix?

    Cheers,

    Mark

Mark, as I understand it, last weekend (May 1-2) wordpress.COM was upgraded to the 3.0 version of wordpress (officially) so that change might have brought in this bug.

I would suggest that you contact staff directly on this at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ so that they can look into it. Contacting them directly is the surest way to make sure the log and address the bug.

Just adding 2 cents here. The first time I viewed your Pandtastic post with the slideshow, I got img XXXX under the photos, the second time it ran there were captions.

    Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I have contacted support, but the reply I got showed that they didn’t understand the problem. I am trying again.

Regarding the pandtastic post – that is a snafu on my part. The problem is not really visible on the blog – it occurs behind the scenes, when you upload jpgs and they are tranferred to the media library.
