Image captions on ‘block editor’
-
How do you make the captions look nice? The default is a normal sized text left aligned, when with the classic editor it would be centered, smaller font, and italicized. How do I get that back with the block editor? [Also, can i get rid of the block editor!?]

Hi there!
The look of the captions will depend on the theme you’re using. Can you send us a link to a post where the captions do not display as you expected? We’ll have a look.
Also, yes, you can go back to the Classic Editor. For that, when editing a post, click on the ‘. . .’ settings icon in the upper right corner of the editing screen. Then, click on Switch to Classic Editor.

Thank you for the help! here is an example of the captions not behaving well with the block editor: https://betweencitiesblog.wordpress.com/2014/09/05/weekend-escape-hudson-ny/
And thank you for letting me know how to switch back to the classic view!

Right, this is indeed due to your theme. Canape is an older theme that predates the block editor by a few years. The block editor introduced a new way of doing captions for images in WordPress, using a different type of HTML than the classic editor used to use, and your theme simply doesn’t have styling defined for the HTML that the block editor uses, so it uses the default styling for that HTML built into your browser.
We don’t have any plans at this time to update this theme to add styles specifically for the block editor, so if you prefer the old caption display, switching back to the classic editor is your best option.
