Image Carousel – next/prev/close buttons – not working in Brave or Edge

    Accepted answer

    Hi,

    Here’s a link to the error report: https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/85063

    Also, having your non-carousel gallery set to ‘attachment page’ will give you some semblance of a gallery – don’t switch to ‘media page’ or ‘none’.

    ‘Attachment page’ – the default setting – will allow visitors to tap through. But we’re missing those guide arrows and other carousel functionality.

    Best wishes from Mike

    [link redacted as it wasn’t working right]

  • Thanks @mikeosbornphoto – I’m marking that as an “accepted answer” for now even though the issue isn’t resolved, just so folks who want the link have it.

    We’ll update here when that’s resolved.

    Thank you for the attachment+Jetpack Carousel workaround as well!

    @kontaktb1a97d0b98 I had to redact the facebook link as it wasn’t working right, but know our staff on social is also aware of the issue!

  • oh and @marinaneira – yes, adding your response here is perfect, since you’re having the same problem and it’s not just something staff has to fix just for your site (in which case a separate thread is helpful). Once this is resolved, it should resolve for everyone.

    If you all want to share links to affected pages so we can quickly check them all once our developers resolve this, we’d appreciate that! Thank you!

    Hi @supernovia many thanks for your work on this.

    Carousels are turned off for my entire site so I’d need a nudge to turn them back on for developer checks. Is that okay?

    With best wishes,

    Mike

    Hi  @supernovia

    For testing of affected pages – 2 for examination …..

    https://torontotest7.wordpress.com/ …….. https://ttstudio.ca/gallery/

    Thanks, Greg

  • @mikeosbornphoto – I think it’s OK for you to leave the carousels off for now, as there are enough other sites that can be tested.

    @coregonline – many thanks for those examples.

    For testing once you think you have the bug resolved. All galleries on this page – https://cerebralstylings.com/samples/ – What is being done for credit and the frustration that has come with this? This bug is a site-breaker for me. My site dead in the water. Is a credit being issued or are renewal dates being extended to compensate for the dead time? I don’t want a credit to promote my site or the like. I don’t use my site that way. Please advise.

    They’ve opened a new github issue for consolidation in case anyone wants visibility.

    i have the same issue with chrome, and the information icon beneath the photos doesn’t work either.

    @elliottsmithgallery, indeed, it’s a recognized issue impacting all users with the latest version of a Chromium-based browser.

    Unfortunately, I can’t provide an estimate for the resolution timeline. The team is currently investigating the changes in Chrome that led to these issues. Any updates on the progress will be shared on the GitHub issue tracking page: https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/34657

    I hope this explanation brings clarity! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

    thank you – at least it works fine with firefox, so it’s better than nothing, but i hope you can find a solution.

    I just received a fix for this, a matter or adding pointer-events code under appearance/additional CSS. SO know a fix is coming soon. All was corrected under Chrome, MS Edge, on all devices. However, I have a “send email” button on my contact page and can’t get the text to center any longer within the button. Text stays aligned left regardless of what I do. In the big scheme of things, I’ll call this a victory and will approach the alignment thing later with WordPress. Small matter relative to the galleries bug.

  • Hey folks, as you may have seen, our developers have implemented a fix for this issue and it will be merged into WordPress.com soon.

    Until then, if you have access to custom CSS with your plan, adding this workaround might help:

    /* Gallery - temporary fix */
    .jp-carousel-overlay {
        pointer-events: all !important;
    }

    For the record, my site is having the same issue. Looking forward to a solution. Thank you.

    I have already given up on this gallery. I replaced it with a classic lightbox and peace of mind. How long can you wait for the problem to be solved? It’s not serious on the developer’s part.

  • Unknown's avatar
    /* Gallery - temporary fix */
    .jp-carousel-overlay {
        pointer-events: all !important;
    }

    I can confirm that the custom CSS code suggested above does work and reactivates all the buttons on the carousel. That said, it would be best to have a permanent solution, especially for those who can’t customize their CSS.

    Good news! We’re working on a solution for this, and you can expect the fix to be released in the next few days. Thanks a bunch for your patience as our development team addresses this. We’re grateful for your understanding!

    thank you! – hopefully, it will also fix the download issue i pointed out a couple of hours ago? (downloading a pic from one of the gallery & it turns out it’s not the right pic, but the next or previous one… annoying!)

    I find the same problem at my blog, one blogger told me that he no longer can look or comment on each picture using the carousel as he was use to. He is using Crome and yesterday he tried Edge and the same result.
