image duplications

I’m close to the maximum capacity for images on a blog. I’ve been trying to remove duplicated images to create more space but want to avoid removing images used on pages (linked). What’s the easiest and quickest way to do this? Is there a way to search all un-linked images? Is there a way to see all duplicate images and to tell which versions are being used on pages? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In your media library you can filter for any images that are unattached to posts/pages.

I’ve been trying to do this – how is it done? In media library, my only search options seem to be “image” and “date.” I don’t see a filter option for attachments or anything else in drop menus. I’d appreciate if you could explain. What am I missing? Thanks.

    Go to

In the Media Library click on the arrow to the right of “all media items”. That gives you the option to filter for unattached images. Hope that helps.

    Thanks. I missed that.

Can you help with another problem. I’ve been trying to ask but I think I haven’t explained the problem well enough –

Now I know how to find all unattached images. But how can this help me link all images to media files in display settings.

All images I recently added to pages weren’t linked to media files. I thought that was a default – didn’t realize I had to opt to link each one in display settings. I haven’t have to manually link images in the past, for many many images on many pages in several WordPress sites. Why, suddenly, do I have to take this additional step?

As it is, I’ve created many new pages and none of the new images are linked, which means that viewers can’t zoom in to see the images – the thumbnail is the maximum size.

The only way I know to change the display settings is to go to each page and edit each individual image. That will take many hours.

Is there a way to change the display settings for all images at one time to link them to their media files?

    Thanks.

Perhaps you need to type modlook in the box to the right.
That should get a “happiness engineer” to give you a definite answer.

I think the answer may well be that you have to edit each image one at a time. I had a problem with images a while back. I found that clicking on an older image opened it in a new window but also put a “comments” box below the image. Although at the time I had comments for posts turned off, spammers still appeared to be able to use these image comments boxes. I was told I needed to edit the images individually.

Thanks for your response. I’ll contact modlook.

Your comment makes me concerned. I heard from friends (illustrators concerned about security on their professional sites) who said WordPress wasn’t secure. That’s why they use Square Space now. I have so much time invested in creating these sites for teaching, it overwhelms me to think of moving them. But what good is it to use a site that isn’t secure?
