Image Editing

  • Unknown's avatar

From a friendly member re. centering images on my blog:

“As for image centering, you get this screen (click) right after uploading and image and before inserting it in the post. The alignment option is right under Link URL.

Alternatively, if the image has been uploaded, click on it in the editor and click the Edit Image icon. You should find another alignment option there (see here).”

Following both link in the quote above, I see images of editing tools that are not present when I upload an image and when I edit an image.
I see the following options only for both instances:

    • Title
    • Caption
    • Description

I would be ever so grateful is someone … anyone … could guide me to the screen seen by this helpful member, for editing images while uploading and for editing images once they’ve been uploaded.
Thank you all so much in advance, for all your help.

Sorry … the links didn’t come through … I’ve cut and pasted here from the page source info … hopefully, this works …

    Go to Media > Library

Hover your mouse over the photo you want to edit and click the edit button from the drop down menu.

beemeister – thank you so much.

The directions you outline are the exact steps that I take when attempting to edit my images.
Unfortunately, I see only what I’ve stated when I follow those steps.
I have NEVER seen a screen like the one depicted in the links you offered.

  • Unknown's avatar

If only I could post an image here … I would take a screen shot of what I see when I use the “edit” feature … it is a very simple screen, compared to the one seen in the links you show … three options only, and they are not really “options” … just labels beside text boxes.

  • Unknown's avatar

Take a screenshot, load it to your media library, then post the link here.

1tess … as per the instruction below the text box where you write you reply here:

Allowed markup: a blockquote code em strong ul ol li.

If I could use the image tags to post a screenshot here, I would have ;)

@spiderphly: Tess suggested you give us a LINK to the image, not the image itself.

  • Unknown's avatar

    panaghioitisadam – links involve markup code, n’est-ce pas? i.e., “a href …. “
That isn’t included in the note at the bottom of the reply box, in the allowable code.
Is the information in that note wrong?

  • Unknown's avatar

it’s cool … I now see the “a” in that note … preparing screen shot …

This is what I see when I hover over an image, no matter what route I take to get to the images:

This is what I see after clicking the “edit” button:

    < href=”http://i40.tinypic.com/dxjwxw.jpg”>

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve changed my mind … I don’t want to center images … it isn’t worth the trouble

thank you all for your attempts to assist.

    @spiderphly:

    – If you just write a URL here (starting with “http”), it will show up as a live link.

    – The screens in the screenshots you now provided show what we all see in our dashboards. It’s just that you’re in the wrong place: image alignment is taken care of IN THE POST EDITOR, not in the Media Library.

You set the alignment of an image after uploading it (via the “Add an image” button) and before inserting it in the post.

To change the alignment of an image after you have inserted it, you click on it (in the visual editor), then click on the mountain icon that shows up.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Oh! Don’t give up.

That IS the “Media Library!!!” But you can’t center pictures there. I apologize that I didn’t read all the posts in this thread

To center a picture in a post, get the post into the visual editor. Click on the picture and you should see a framed picture of a mountain and a red circle with a line across it. The circle will delete your picture from the post, so don’t touch that. Click on the mountain. That will take you to the photo editor. Choose across the line that says “alignment,” choose CENTER and update. The photo should be centered.

Here’s the picture with the parts of the window labelled, as you posted above.

All hail panaghiotisadam … my new hero …

Thank you so much for mentioning that I must edit the POST, and in VISUAL EDITOR!!!!

I work only in the HTML setting!!!

Also … I couldn’t actually get the the visual editor via the “edit” feature when viewing the image in the “media” tab … I was only able to do all of this while in the “edit post” section.

@spiderphly: Uploading and inserting an image works in both the visual and the html editor. Changing the alignment of an already inserted image can be done in the html editor as well: you just change the value of “align—-“.

(I initially suggested visual because most bloggers seem to be unaccustomed to html or feel daunted by it; if you know what you’re doing, then actually it’s often faster or more practical.)

  • Unknown's avatar

There is at least one other forum-questioner who is confused about having to be in the “edit post” mode and is trying to edit images directly in the media library from the dashboard memory.

  • Unknown's avatar

You can “edit post” in either visual mode or HTML mode – the steps outlined by panaghiotisadam only work in VISUAL mode.
The images I’ve pointed to are what is seen when attempting to edit in HTLM mode.

panaghiotisadam – according to this page – http://support.wordpress.com/code/2/ – the “align” tag is not allowed in HTML editing on wordpress.

Is the information on that support page correct – or is your suggestion correct (change the value of “align—-“.)??

  • Unknown's avatar

    – The steps I outlined for editing an already inserted image are specific to the visual or html editor; the steps for uploading and inserting an image via the “Add an Image” button aren’t.

    – The codes listed in that Support info page are opening and closing tags only, not inside properties and values (there are lots of working html not mentioned there – e.g. “target”, “margin”, “border”, “width”, “padding”, “font-size” etc.). If, say, you upload an image with its alignment set to “none”, then once you insert it in the post you get an “alignnone” command in its code. You can change that to “aligncenter”, “alignleft” or “alignright”. Try a post with an image and some text, and you’ll see the differences yourself.
