image-editing

when I upload a new image (for header bg), instead of WP asking me if I want to overwrite the image it keeps the original and renames the newest upload!! this is REALLY not practical.. user should always be given option to overwrite.. to rename newest upload every time is the LEAST practical thing to do, as then you have to change the CSS code every time you upload a new image!!

please… IS there an option to overwrite existing image with the same name when you upload a new one???????

    thank you..

Question: IS there an option to overwrite existing image with the same name when you upload a new one?
    Answer: No

For the best results when it comes to uploading images compress. optimize and re-size them to the exact specifications before uploading them. Then there will be no problem like you describe. Here’s a post that contains links to free online services http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2009/11/28/ten-free-online-image-compression-and-optimzation-programs/

Please post the complete url for the blog to which you are referring when you post to this wordpress.COM technical support forum.

BTW the sizes for all custom headers for themes that allow for them are found in this entry in wordpress.COM support documentation http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/

why is everyone talking about sizes and compression and optimizing? this has nothing to do with what I asked….

issue is WP should give users option to OVERWRITE when you upload a new img that has name of existing img (and I have worked with other blog sw and usu. they offer this option…) this is standard stuff and all FTP clients have this option..

so every time I upload a new version of an image WP renames it and keeps all the old ones? (I guess they have room to spare on their servers….;~) this doesn’t make ANY SENSE.. esp since it means every time I upload an updated image I have to change the CSS code to reflect the new name of the image…

oh well.. thank you for your response…

oh — url of my blog (it appears in a text box in the form when I’m writing post, so I assume it will appear autom. with the post… sorry… http://mayablogger.wordpress.com/)

lol :D I’m aware of the behavior you describe. I sincerely doubt that wordpress.com is going to introduce the ability to “overwrite” overnight.

This thread is posted into the Support forum and not the Ideas forum so I thought you wanted help with getting a header image up ASAP.

Now that you have posted the link to your blog I can see that you have a header image displaying.

I will now flag this thread so our Moderators move it to the Ideas forum for staff to take note of.
    Happy blogging :)

    fair enough.. thank you..

(I still find it hard to believe they prefer to keep endless copies of imgs instead of offering option to overwrite them… ( but well.. again, it seems like they have room to spare in their servers….;~)
