image from gallery to post?

  Cannot seem to get an image already uploaded to the gallery into a post. I’ve watched the how-to video several time but I cannot duplicate that. I can get to the gallery images but am not clear what to do from there. Could it be that the theme I”m using just doesn’t accommodate pics?
