Image is wrong size, cant adjust

  I am going crazy trying to insert a picture on a post. It keeps coming out thumbnail size even though on attachment details it clearly shows full size 1247×1024. After I select my image from image gallery and click on insert to post it shows small and this caption:
  Path: p » img.aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-882
  ??? so frustrated, I hope someone can help
