  My image appears as featured image on the compose/edit page, but doesn’t show up on the page seen by the public.

  Hi there. Both your posts are displaying featured images. Are you speaking of your static pages? It does not appear that your theme displays the featured image on pages, only on posts. If you want your page to display an image, you’ll have to add it to the page itself using the Add Media button: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/adding-images-to-posts-or-pages/
