Image Library Search

As of day, when I conduct a search in my media library for images, only the last 20 images (in chronology of upload) appear in the selection gallery. Previously, every image that matched the search criteria would appear, but that is no longer the case and, as the interface has recently changed dramatically, I can’t find any easy way to restore the previous capability. The only way I can currently locate images that don’t match the ‘last 20’ criteria is to scroll through the entire library and try to find images by sight.

I must be missing something; this can’t be by design. Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

What is the URL of your website or what is the name of your account on the WordPress.com platform you need assistance with?

Is it http://lightscapesphotography.wordpress.com or another one?

    Thanks!

  • It’s an infinite scroll system now, meaning more should load as you scroll down.

If not, first please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

I have attempted to make a search of the media library using three different browsers: Firefox 87.0, MS Edge Version 89.0.774.68 and Chrome Version 89.0.4389.114 (all 64-bit). All three browsers are up to date. In the case of Chrome this is a brand new installation (i.e. there’s no cache backlog, no cookies, no extensions or add-ons). Edge has virtually none of these things as I almost never use it.

All three browser experiences produce the exact same result:

I type a word in the search box (e.g. Michigan).

The search produces exactly 20 image thumbnails (the most recent 20 images that have been uploaded to the library that include that keyword).

Four boxes at the end of the 20 thumbnails flash for a few second and eventually disappear. There is no scrolling to be done.

Understand that this problem only occurs when I do a search using a word in the search box. If I leave the library screen at its default, with the search box blank, I can scroll down and more images appear. But when I try to use the search box to actually find specific images and image sets, I receive the display as I described above. And, as I mentioned, this is happening with all three browsers, including one that is literally a brand new install.

Has anything changed with regard to the media library generally, or the media library search capability specifically, in the past few days? I ask because, as recently as Saturday, I wasn’t having a problem.

  • Ok, that’s incredibly odd.

I can reproduce this issue on your site, but not on my own.

My best guess at the moment is it might the amount of images. I definitely have more than 20 of what I’m searching for, but definitely not 600 like you seem to.

I have reported this for the developers to take a look at https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/51695

I appreciate your passing this along.

I do want to point out that the search using any term produces this 20-image limit. “Michigan” was just an example. If you search on, say, “Arizona” (which has, I believe, 80-100 images), you still get only 20 thumbnails. And, I want reemphasize the fact that this was not a problem as recently as Saturday afternoon.

Respectfully, it’s been nearly 10 days since I first reported this issue and the problem still exists. Is there any hope of it being resolved?

  • Hi there,

The issue is still open and our developers are working on it. Once it’s been resolved we’ll update you here.
