Image Placement issues in first post

  Hi,
  I’m writing my first post and all the help files i can find say that if i place my cursor where I want it, then click add media, the image I want will be inserted into the post where the cursor was.
  However, no matter how many times I try this, with different images, the image always appears at the top of the post.
  Can someone help?
  What am I doing wrong?

  update: this is only an issue in the “visual” editing mode
  I can “add media” in the text format wherever my cursor is
