image problems

Sob, i am not the very brainy when it comes to computers, now i did manage to upload some, i dont know how.
Now i just keep getting something that says illegal image, if that makes any sence.
Please tell me in laymans terms, ie to someone who doesnt talk computer (someone who thought a JPEG was some sort of climbing equiptment, to give you an idea of how thick i am)
Explain how you would do to a small child.
what am i doing wrong, i am uploading it from my computer as its the only way i know how too and i am making them quite small before hand.
what is the best size to upload.
When you have got off the floor from laughing can you help me in anyway.

Your image files must be either JPEG (JPG), PNG or GIF format. Make sure the filenames have an extension (“filename.jpg”, not just “filename”).
JPG is best for photographs, PNG for diagrams and line drawings.
The ideal size for an image depends on your theme. Maximum widths for each theme are listed here:
