Image problems from Mobile Uploads

  • Unknown's avatar

I have two problems, that happen on both of my blogs. Every time I upload from mobile app, the captions disappear and then I have to type them back in on the computer or sometimes I can put them back in on mobile after being posted. The captions appear in the visual before posting. This just keeps happening with my android

Secondly when I go to update the captions, it automatically changes the image size but I have no option when I’m adding the image for size (no drop down for large, full etc). I have to then go into html formate and manually change the height until it look right as it is smushed. I suck at code. If I don’t add a caption the photos are fine and stay as full size and not distorted.

    Any tips, fixes?

It sucks that I’ve shared the blogs and keep realizing after the fact that the relevant captions are not there.

I am now manually adding them …

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Rosietta,

Just to make sure we’re on the same page, the issue you’re mentioning goes something like this:

    1. Create a new post and upload photos

    2. Add captions to the photos

    3. Publish the post

When you view the published post, the captions are not added as they should be. In addition, when you add the captions to your images (Step #2), the image size changes automatically. Is that correct? Just want to clarify so we can try to reproduce this!

    A few follow-up questions:

    1. Are you using the app or WordPress.com in the browser on your phone?

    2. Can you check for upgrades to make sure you’re using the most up-to-date version of the app?

    Yes that is correct.

I’ve tried everything, even adding my caption as the title and adding it in as the caption (optional). I even just saved a draft, opened it up on the computer and started editing the captions that were there, and they auto updated and saved to no captions. Now there are no captions on my phone or on my desktop. I guess again I will have to publish it and then go through and rewrite and edit everyone.

The only thing that seems to work is if I save a draft so that the images are in the media folder, then go on the computer and individual add photos in again, adding captions on the computer

I’m using the app on my android and yes, it’s been updated.

Whoops, sorry, got an error and reposted but it seems it already posted. My bad.

No worries. I just deleted the dupe. :)

Jeremey asked me to take this over since I use the Android app. Here are the steps I took:

    1. Started a new post.
    2. Added a title.
    3. Typed some words into the content of the post
    4. Added a landscape image by selecting “Select a photo from Gallery” from the uploads options.
    5. Typed some more words
    6. Added a portrait image by selecting “Select a photo from Gallery” from the uploads options.
    7. Edited each image to add a short caption.
    8. Published post.

I’m not seeing the issues you reported. I imagine there are two places I could be doing things differently from you, so I’d love some more information about your workflow.

    1. When you go to select and image, which of these options are you choosing:

    2. How long are your captions? The ones I tested with were three and four words long. Are your captions long enough to wrap onto a second line when published?

For your reference, here’s the post I created from my app:

    Testing image captions from app

I guess I have cyanogen a subset of android. My options do not look like yours. I’d add a photo to show you but on my phone there’s no option to attach a photo here. It basically just brings up gallery. No options to choose from.

    Captions are long and short.

Lately I got some captions to work on a draft. I opened them up on the computer to finish and publish and literally they disappeared before my eyes and autosaved without even the captions that I added.

Also once I save images I can not edit it on my phone without editing and knowing code, which obviously I don’t.

There are many problems I’m experiencing. I Adm normally quite generally techsavvy but a lot doesn’t work. It doesn’t work between editing on the computer and mobile. Once I try to adjust on the computer the captions everything goes haywire. Guess I’ll pull out my iPad with this draft and see if it’s my phone system that is the problem.

The app should look the same, even though you’re on Cyanogen. Can you check the version of your app? This should be under Settings > About or under Help & Support.

You can also upload your screenshot to your Media Library and I can take a look. That would be very helpful so I can see the differences in your app. :)
