Image quality
-
I go to a great deal of trouble to fine tune my images in Photoshop CS4 Extended prior to uploading. I resize to 72 dpi / 468 width which the digg format seems to like, use smart sharpen save as a png and upload. The WP “crunching” process consistently degrades what I build in to the images. I post weekly to my blog: http://weeklygrist.wordpress.com/ and to this site: http://www.corndancer.com/joephoto/photohome.html in this case, both shots of the waterfall are from the same shoot, different angles and processed similarly. The shot on the site retains what I built in and it is lost on WP. What am I doing wrong and is there a better way? I am a professional photographer and while not a guru, I am more or less at the expert level with Photoshop.

Joe,
Why are you using PNG files for photographs? I believe that’s part of your problem (though there may be more to it than that).
Jpeg format is usually best for photographs.

nb the other issue is that on some images there’s a 1-pixel difference between the original you uploaded and the size WordPress is displaying. That difference forces WP to create a resized version, which affects clarity.
Your original images are still there. WordPress will use them when there’s no reason for it to resize.
