Image Quality Question
-
I’m having some image quality problems on my blog, msmphoto.wordpress.com.
You’ll notice that the images appear very blurred – if you click on them to see the larger version, you’ll see how they are supposed to appear. On the first image, it’s particularly noticeable on the text “Jack what will we do without you?”
The smaller thumbnail is blurry but the fullsize image is not.
I thought it might be a resizing issue, so I resized the original in Photoshop to 584 px wide (the maximum for my theme) and uploaded it again, but still had the same problem – the thumbnail within the post is blurry but when you click it, it’s clear and crisp – even though they were the exact same size!
I’ve read thesacredpath’s helpful posts here

but am still having no luck.Anyone have any other tips? Could it be a theme thing?

If you uploaded and inserted a 584px wide image into the post at full-size, it should not be doing any processing at all.
We need a link to the exact post where you did this and a description of the image so we can make sure and look at the correct one.

Sure thing. If you go to my blog here:

In the first post called “Jack’s Memorial” you’ll see two of the same image. The first image was the original JPEG resized in Photoshop to 584px wide then uploaded to WordPress (it’s called DSC_0025_thumb if you hover over it). So WordPress didn’t need to do any resizing.
The second image I resized to 800 x 600 in Photoshop, uploaded it and then let WordPress resize to 584px wide to fit within my theme.
As you can see, both appear a little blurry. This is especially noticeable in the text “Jack what will we do without you?” Even the first one which is already resized has the same problem – it looks blurry in the post but when you click it, it reads clearer.
I’m at a loss…

For the benefit of fellow volunteers, here’s a link to the post you are talking about:
http://msmphoto.wordpress.com/2011/08/23/jacks-memorial/I noticed that for some reason, the blurry picture was actually resized to 570 px width.

Sorry about that.
So I think I have it figured out:
For some reason, when I upload an image it gets resized to 569 x 377px even though 584px is the maximum for my theme. If you right click and view image data on the image, it’ll say”584px × 387px (scaled to 569px × 377px)” or something to that effect. When I upload it at 569 x 377, it’s crystal clear.
The only problem now is I was hoping to have it so my viewers could click the smaller one and it would redirect them to the larger version. You’d think applying a scale factor of 1.4 (which makes 569 x 377 = 800 x 530px) would do it, but again it becomes blurry.
Any advice on doing that? I’m thinking I’d have to upload two images (the original and the resized 569 x 77px)?
