Image remains on server after deletion.
-
I’m hoping someone has found this problem previously and knows what needs to happen.
An image was posted on my website back in 2012 and whomever it was that posted it, evidently did not get proper documentation on the rights to use that image, so we need to delete it. I went into the Media library, located the file and deleted it.
But… the image can still be viewed if you have the URL of the image.
Here is the image we need to delete:
https://hbuchristianthought.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/glasses-on-heb-bible.jpgIt is no longer listed in my media library, so I no longer have editing controls.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

PS, the last sentence is incorrect. The wordpress blog is actually hbuchristianthought.wordpress.com

re: https://hbuchristianthought.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/glasses-on-heb-bible.jpg
To delete any content on a WordPress.COM hosted site you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the site.
https://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
*Replace “NAME_OF_BLOG” with the actual name of the blog in the URL above.
If you are not logged in under the correct WordPress.COM username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into another account
If you did not register the site under your username account and do not have the required access you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it and have them act or transfer the site to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

When did you delete the image?
That image has NOT appear to have been deleted as it does not produce a 404 page not found error message.
To keep things running quickly around here, files are held in multiple caches through a separate system. These caches are usually cleared within 3 days and the deleted files will then become 404 page not found.
Be aware that deleting images from your media library also deletes them from all posts and pages they were embedded into and leaves behind broken links.

For what it’s worth I get a “404 — File not found”. I guess that just proves there are multiple caches all over the world.

@themagicrobot
Do you? I don’t get that in Canada. How interesting.I guess that just proves there are multiple caches all over the world.
Yes. :)

Hi there,
I’ve made sure that file is definitely not on our servers any more, so if that link still loads the image for you, it’s either being loaded from your local browser cache, or from a search engine cache.
To have the image removed from search engine caches you’ll need to contact the search engines directly.
