Image replaced with title
-
Most of my images are about 600 or max. 800 pixels x whatever. Every now and again I find one of my images replaced by its title. What does this mean?
And another question. Sometimes I try to reduce the size of the attachment image and it hardly ever works. What can I be doing wrong? Is there a problem with this?
Is there a limit to how much one can put on a page?

When the title shows up instead of the image, that means wordpress cannot find the image in the media library (if you have uploaded it to the media library). This can also happen if you host your images somewhere like flickr and they have problems.
As far as number of images, there is no limit, but do realize that if you fill pages full of images, it makes them slow loading, and there is the possibility that before they all get loaded that the system might timeout. Also remember that the majority of people are on 1.5Mbps internet service or slower, and a heavily loaded page means they will simply not want to wait and to elsewhere.
Always optimize your images to where they are under 75k in files size (50k is even better) and limit the number of images you put into one post or page for your visitor’s sake.

Think of it like this: There is no theoretical limit, but there most certainly is a practical limit.

Hey, I ran across your post while having some issues of my own. My main header image and the image from one of my posts has disappeared. There is a tile with a red X in the blank image in the upper left hand corner. When I click on the X it shows a 404 message error and says the image can’t be found. How do I relink the photos with my blog?
Thanks!

The site linked to your username, http://hnsavage.wordpress.com/ , has no posts or anything but the stock header for the theme used. We need a link to the blog you are talking about.

THANKS (Internet has been down for some days so its a bit late) a new vista of mistakes has opened up. I thought when I chose eg 800 x whatever automatically meant I had chosen a low file! And I have been using PShop CS almost daily for about 10 years! Never needed to know that part. Some are a reasonable size by LUCK…and some aren’t. I don’t host my stuff anywhere else…so that isn’t a problem. I am doing my homework about Optimising (which of course sounds just the opposite of what it is!).
If there is anything else you can see on my site that looks plain silly, do let me know…well that is asking a bit much, I guess!
All the best, Julia -
Photoshop CS3, 4 and 5 have an entry on the file menu called “save for web & devices” and it does a very good job of optimizing images for the web and will make them about as small as possible (file size). That is what I use.

I paid full price for CS and I really think I can’t afford updating for minimal extras.
The first lot of prints I put on my site, I simply sent myself the images by email from Picassa, and then saved the attachments and uploaded them to my blog …it seemed a simple way of reducing the file size. Is there something wrong with that?
It was just that sometimes they produced an attachment image a bit small. It was when I got sophisticated and ‘exported’ from Picasa I have got into trouble!
I have yet to understand why when you choose eg. 800 x whatever that is nothing to do with the file size.
Thank you for your time.
