Image Resize
-
We have a second thread about these issues into which one of the main developers for the image editor changes has already posted:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/image-resize-1?replies=15
Already we have made a few changes and fixed a few things thanks to the feedback there.
If you have constructive feedback about new or missing features, or if you encounter any bugs, please post in that thread so we can keep the conversation all in one place

https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/in-post-image-editor-has-stopped-working-editing-icons-do-not-show-up/page/2?replies=6#post-1710375My “feedback” is a simple question: what about the advanced settings in the images editor?
Relevant & missed feature, no doubt. -
The topic has been closed on the other thread. I do not see any answers to the question I have other than something to the effect that they will be rolling out new fixes in the next couple of days. Really? I don’t think I should need to wait for days to make my next post. It’s either that or take maybe the same amount of time and edit my pictures. Yes, I’m sure it shouldn’t take so long to edit pictures but I don’t know what the heck I’m doing half the time… which is WHY I chose WORDPRESS in the FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!
grrrrr….. -
What about putting borders on images? “Advanced settings” has disappeared with the new update and I can’t put borders on my images!
Help.

from @jackiedana:
“If you have constructive feedback about new or missing features…”I wish I knew how to be constructive to help you understand my feedback that I want to have the ability to change image borders and choose my own spacing around the image.
How about a second tab with “Advanced Settings” where these features would be made available? There is a great template you could reference in the previous iteration of WordPress image editing features.
The cynic in me is inclined to believe the suggestion made to me today by a professional developer that it is possible WordPress is intending to drive higher end users to another level service and save the .com version for simple “flip image/rotate image/crop image” fat-edit-pencil icon type of users.
I am so sad about this. It is unfortunate. But to end on a constructive note, I know the staff must be working very hard and so you have my sympathy about the rough response. I hope it serves as some insight on planning other super improvements in the future to make our experience friendly and happy-making.

@faceplacesnorth: I too, would like to know how to title my images. I’ve looked through other qts in the forums and I don’t see anything addressing this issue?
I will be keeping my eye on this thread hoping that someone clues me in, or tells me the proper place to ask the question! -
facesplacesnorth:
Hi there,
I’d like to know how to do the following in the new set-up (all options available under “Advanced Settings” in the old set-up):
1. Add a border of particular width to my image.
2. Add extra vertical or horizontal space around my image.
3. Title my image (not the alt text or the caption, but the actual image title; right now it’s a URL that I can’t amend).
4. How to set my image links to open in a new window (ideally without having to do this separately through the link button on the Kitchen Sink).
For the record, I also will miss the percentage resizing options, as that helped me ensure that multiple images on my blog all ended up as the same size!
Many thanks. All my problems, requests and questions! Please WP Staff, help us!
Cheers from Italy. -
I see how the new way works and I like it! Somewhere here one of the support people mentioned we need to click “full size” after we upload it into our media. Once you do that and click “insert image”, you only have to drag a corner to whatever size you like. I prefer this because you can actually see how it is instead of guessing with the percentages.

Does anyone know how to add a tooltip to the image now since they made changes? I need to edit/add wording to my images for people to see when they hover over my images. I can’t figure it out. I can’t seem to find any instructions or directions on this to edit an image here. The instructions still give the old directions for how to do this before they did the update. Thanks.

Bit upset about the lack of communication with these changes. Started using CSS editing for the first time yesterday and thought somehow that process must have altered the normal settings. Wasted a lot of time and now see from the forum that it was in fact a universal change.
Will the ability add padding and borders to media be returned to the main interface or will I need to learn how to do it with CSS editing?

Re: Inserting images
Can someone at WordPress please explain why you would make major changes to something so basic WITHOUT giving your customers any notice?
It’s ridiculous that I’m back to coding by hand in order to make images appear the way I want. It goes against the whole purpose of a CMS.
Handy hint: To put a border around an image insert the following code in ‘image class”:
style="border:1px solid black;" -
Please restore the old image adjustment settings. I work extensively with still frames from motion pictures and often need to fine tune the image size and ratio within and between text blocks. I used nearly all of those functions under the old “advanced” settings that others have mentioned are now missing.
The stretching of image nodes on the visual editor is cute, but not precise enough when I’m inserting multiple lines of images against each other — much easier to do in the old “pop-up” image settings box.
It seems now to be a dumbed-down image editor, not useful for those for whom image appearance is important, even critical, to the look of the blog.
Please at least consider, as someone above mentioned, adding the old image setting tools under an “advanced” image editing function.

An extra issue I’ve experienced since the change is.. it doesn’t seem possible to drag an image to a new location in a blog any more. Previously I could move an embedded image up and down until I found the best place for it, but now this doesn’t seem to work. I’ve had to delete the image and then re-insert it somewhere else. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

In the text editor, I look for the html for the particular image I want to deal with.
This is an example of one I have used recently:
<img class=”alignleft wp-image-11299 size-medium”After this I have placed the following text:
style=”border: 1px solid grey; margin-top: 8px; margin-bottom: 8px;” title= “—————————” (fill in your own)End result: <img class=”alignleft wp-image-11299 size-medium” style=”border: 1px solid grey; margin-top: 8px; margin-bottom: 8px;” title=”—————————”
I now have the image with a one pixel border in my choice of colour, top and bottom margins of 8 pixels and a title for my image. Put your own specifications in.
I hope this makes sense!
When the image is set up, click on it (ignore that silly thick crayon and cross) and go to the bar at the top. Click on the left paper clip, delete the WP Media Library link (if it’s there), add your own chosen link and check the box “Open link in a new window/tab” – Click “Update”
I hope this all works as well for you as it has for me. If I have missed anything, please let me know. I am no fundi when it comes to technology.
For the record, I am just as p****d with this as everyone else. This takes time if you have several images, and we don’t all have time. But this could be a way round it, and I doubt WordPress will offer any real help or answer anyone’s questions properly.
Good luck with it :)

@ameliacurzon
Thanks for the suggestions, though I am as p****d as you and everyone above. I often use anywhere from 50 to 100 images per post and using the dumbed down image editing functions will not cut it.I’ve tried going straight to HTML to alter the images but found that some changes disappeared or simply didn’t work after I saved. At any rate, manual settings via HTML for dozens or a hundred images would take days to complete.
Very rude to put it mildly to do these major changes unannounced. Even the help functions have not been updated and still show the old — and currently much missed — image setting functions.
This is not acceptable, administrators.
-
Like violdam6 I can also make posts that contain dozens of images, and the new “simplified” tool just won’t do the job. It can take me the better part of a day just to get the rough draft ready, and the new lack of options is liable to double that, with the amount of plain-text editing I’ll have to do.
-
lauramackay… I have tried that. The problem is, when I go to preview the picture it is the same tiny size. I have tried making it various sizes and gone to check the preview many many MANY times. Always, it is the same tiny size.

This is like someone turning off a light while you are working, and you holler, “Excuse me, I was using that!”
I think the most common response to that would be, “I’m sorry,” as the light is swiftly turned back on.
Instead, we get something along the lines of, “Well, we made some improvements in the way you can open and close the curtains. It is much easier now. You don’t have to walk over to the end of the window any more. Now you can just grab the curtains anywhere and move them. Many people have worked long and hard on this change. It may take some time to get used to this new way of doing things, but we’re confident you will enjoy it after you become used to it. We welcome constructive feedback, but we will not be going back to the old way of doing things, so if you have something constructive to offer, we will seriously consider it for future versions.”
“Um, what about the light I was using? Could you please turn it back on?”
…crickets chirping…
-
PLEASE GO BACK TO NORMAL. This is RIDICULOUS. My posts look horrible that I can’t edit the pictures.
-
Now They have added the option of 4 sizes, but the jump between each is gi-NOR-mous.
Sigh….. -
I need the advanced settings back. I have always put borders and margins around my photos and now I have to do it all by coding and it takes forever to scan through a wall of codes. And put the “edit” button on the left side where it used to be. I use large images and I don’t want to have to constantly scroll to the right.
