Image Resize
-
Hello,
I noticed today that the More Tag (http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/) does not work like it used to since the Visual Editor got updated today.
I almost always add the More Tag on a separate line/double spaced after a sentence (usually the fourth sentence), but if I do that now my post will show an extra space where the invisible More Tag is; and so the spacing goes from Double Spaced to Triple or Quadruple Spaced.
Was this change to the More Tag intentional or is this a bug?
Thank you,
-John Jr -
Oops, I thought that this Topic was for the Visual Editor (I misread the Sticky Post mentioning this Topic :D ), sorry; I will make my own Topic for this instead.

The idea is that being able to resize the image directly in the editor is a better experience than using percentages in the old interface.
STUPID STUPID
Drag a corner is fine for ONE picture I do a lot of class type thing, how to do something, how to tie a knot etc. I NEED THE PICTURES TO BE THE SAME SIZE AND WIDTH TO LOOK GOOD – drag and stretch on 10 pictures will not work at all – I see no way to change the size – someone said there might be some size option if the picture is inserted full; size – so I if the pictures I start to put in are not the correct size – do I need to delete all the pictures and start over?
the old way I could size a picture to the pixel – that seems to be all gone now – I went back to check with some old pictures – only drag an stretch – not way to intelligently resize at all –
so with drag and stretch what do I do?? put grease pencil marks on my screen to get things close?? How about masking tape – yes great on 10 or 15 pictures
useless “upgrade” and just made the next how to do it way harder to do

I am glad that you mentioned that Auxclass, I could not find an Image Resize Option either, and so I assumed that it was removed in the new Visual Editor Update; but I really hope that they bring back the old Image Resize Option to go along with the new approach because I like to size my images exactly as well.
The levels of bugs that I have been finding across WordPress.com have been increasing a lot since last year (sadly many bugs that I report now seem to get acknowledged and put on the Low Priority List, and not fixed so far :( ) , I would really like to recommend that WordPress creates a Volunteer Beta Tester Program or something like that, because I seem to find bugs that many other people seem to miss and/or not report even though I am just a normal user/blogger just blogging without programming knowledge; and I would like to help find/report these bugs before these things are released to the public so that others can be spared from some of these bugs.
I imagine that WordPress is working hard trying to add new things and I know that bugs happen and I would like to thank WordPress for their hard work and this free service, but it would be nice if they would let some of us help them because this seems to be an area where some of us could help maybe and it seems they could use help in this area; and I do not like seeing unnecessary bugs and acknowledged bugs that do not seem to get fixed, and I like WordPress.com and I would like to help improve things.
Anyway, enough of my jibber jabber/nonsense (it is late and I am tired ;) ), I apologize for once again going somewhat off-topic and wasting everyones’ time.

They already have around 20,000,000 Beta testers, code is rolled out here for WordPress.ORG and tested here before the general public gets a stable version.
The new o2 Theme is also being tested and I am helping with that test – it is going to replace P2 and works great for Project Management – they use o2 for Project Management (used to be P2) – and there is a real difference between a Theme with all the users as Admins, and the real world out here where most of the time only one or two are Admin’s and the rest Editor or Author – but I digress and have now messed the thread up a bit – so in at least one case they are testing with outside people

Thank you for sharing that Auxclass, but I am still surprised that most of the bugs that I find get through; but I guess that I will keep reporting some bugs that I find to help, but it is not encouraging when some bugs get put on the Low Priority List and not fixed days/weeks/months/a year later.
C’est la vie.
But I do look forward to seeing the Visual Editor bugs fixed hopefully, and I will try to continue encouraging myself to report bugs as I find them whether they get fixed or not; and I hope to see the number of bugs on WordPress.com decrease as the year continues.
Thank you for your service/help/hard work Auxclass and other members of the community and the WordPress Team, and good night.

They do seem to be reading the posts, but as for listening, i.e paying attention to what we are saying, and saying in a reasonable way? Hm, not so sure.
I can resize my images using the drag boxes, yes, and they even stay the new size at preview. But I don’t just have one image per post, and consistency is next to impossible using this method. I have consistently recommended WP to my clients, as being easy to use and also sophisticated, but I’m rethinking this. I honestly don’t think most of them would put up with the current situation (many like borders, for instance, and have neither the time nor the skill to start messing about with code). But I’m holding fire for a couple of days to see if any notice is taken of our point of view…

I ma not very optimistic. Clearly the WP priority is to redesign the product so that it works on tablets and hand helds. That is why we get the imbecile chunky pencil icon. There is little or no interest in supporting PC and desk-top users. I am nervous about posting today in fear of coming across other retrograde improvements!
-
I suppose the next thing they remove is the text editor so that we really, really can’t add title tags, specific pixel widths and other formatting on our own….
I’m so glad I never paid for a custom theme upgrade because clearly the aim is to make every site look like a WP site, not individual websites.
-
The aim is to support tablet users with big fingers! The pencil icon is an example of where it is all going! Serious PC users will be forced to adapt or find a new posting platform. I fear for the future of serious blogging!
-
While I can see that some tablet owners may have had a problem, surely that doesn’t justify annoying everyone?
With colourcottage on being glad I didn’t go for a custom theme upgrade. There’d have been no point.
-
It doesn’t annoy everyone, because most people are now tablet users – it only annoys serious PC users, but they are no longer a priority user group!

I’d like to know how to do the following in the new set-up (all options available under “Advanced Settings” in the old set-up):
1. Add a border of particular width to my image.
2. Add extra vertical or horizontal space around my image.
3. Title my image (not the alt text or the caption, but the actual image title; right now it’s a URL that I can’t amend).
4. How to set my image links to open in a new window (ideally without having to do this separately through the link button on the Kitchen Sink). As above – why are there no advanced settings in this new image editor? it is often crucial to adjust the spacing around an image and I use a lot of images in my posts so having to edit the code is very time consuming and not everyone understands how to do this!
Could apetcher be right? Are PC users no longer a priority user group?
-
This is definitely for mobile users, the new image editor takes up less than 10% of my screen, the rest is blank space. It would be easy peasy to fit in title, margins, borders and sizing options somewhere.
-
I am going to post problems here, one by one, as I encounter them, even though some may already have been mentioned. FIrst:
As of this morning, the “Alt Text” function in the image editor has no effect on the image. It used to provide a “caption” for an image when hovering over it, a very useful function, better than cluttering multiple, side-by-side images with “hard” captions. What the heck is the purpose of having the “Alt Text” box on the image editor if it does nothing to the final image?
Did WP bother to even test these changes?

@izit: The answer is probably yes

The Alt Text function, as well as the missing checkbox for “Open in another window/tab” can be entered separately from the image editor by using the “paperclip” “link button” on the toolbar, and possibly in HTML text editor as well (but this seems hit or miss so far). This is ridiculous. The original pop-up image editor had all these features only a few clicks away. Why remove them completely when so many users value them?
Why dumb down the image editing function that is so important to people whose work is image-intensive? I already work hard to process my images before I even upload them to wordpress. Now I have to manually “WORK AROUND” these supposed “IMPROVEMENTS” once the photos are uploaded to wordpress!

In attempt to be constructive, I am genuinely trying to think of suggestions to address the immediate distress this removal of options has caused that doesn’t just suggest to continue to offer the desired and much loved control (for whatever reason this appears to be an unacceptable solution to WordPress decision makers).
It would help if we were allowed to be privy to the REAL reason behind the change and the aversion to addressing the reaction the loss of features has engendered. Maybe we would quit clamoring for help if we understood the whole picture.
Tell me clearly that I am no longer allowed to have the control that was previously available. If you were able to be transparent enough to tell me why, that would be appreciated. Then tell me if there is another option available to regain that control.
Are you streamlining the work required to do the coding and development to maintain the backbone of WordPress.com? Do you need more money to afford doing things the way you used to? Offer me a chance to pay something for the control I seek.
My suggestion is that you speak directly to the concerns being raised by all of us. Please offer me an option to achieve the control I seek. What do you want from us? Do you want us to leave? Do you want more money from us? Do you want us to make our blogs all look more uniform to each other? Why would you make this change and not be willing to communicate openly with your community of users?
I’m sorry, I don’t understand. Believe me, I would like to. If I never regain the ability to edit my images on WordPress.com to make them look the way I would like, at the very least, I wish I were able to genuinely understand why not.
