johnwhays, you nailed it.
I would also appreciate being treated with respect and given honest responses from WP admin, not “Yee-Haw” “We’re not going backward in time,” or similar sarcasms. Tell me where WP is headed in terms of how it views its user base. If people who do intensive image editing on desktop computers and want to see that work displayed professionally on their WP blogs are no longer important to WP, then please say so. If there are options available to us to “workaround” the new changes, let us know. Vague nods toward some future “considerations” won’t do.

Johnwhays,
Well put, but I think that some Software people tend to have an arrogance when it comes to criticism of their decisions – it undermines their sense of worth.
They live in a world of their own and the wider world just does not understand them or the thinking behind some decisions.
Otherwise they would not make comments such as “you will like it when you understand it)
In answer to them, all I will say is KISS (Keep it simple stupid) otherwise people will walk away. -
violdam6 asks “Did WP bother to even test these changes?”
Of course they didn’t – this roll out is the test!
This is the future and it is probably time for serious bloggers to look for an alternative platform.
Remember – they are not doing us a favour – they earn revenue from our posts through advertising.
Interesting that there have been no responses recently except for ‘closing down this thread’
The arrogance and contempt is nauseating -
These are software bunnies, expressing themselves tactfully is not a relevant skill. I think the response was probably just clumsy rather than deliberately patronising. Think…

Here is a patronising response fro a member of staff called Jeremelduvall which is closed for general responses:
Hi there!
We recently made some changes to the Visual editor including the removal of some advanced settings when editing media images.
Currently, there are two main ways to manually handle the sizing of an image (outside of thumbnail, medium, etc):
You can drag and drop the image to resize using the boxes as shown here:
https://cloudup.com/cjTljhHtXhCWhen you click on the pencil icon after hovering over an image, you can edit the size by clicking “Edit Image” and then “Scale Image” on the right-hand side of the screen
For adding a border, that has been removed from the Media editing settings. However, you can add a border manually by adding the following code to the image HTML:So do I understand this correctly?
Staff won’t respond
The whole point of the change was to make WP more difficult to use -
I have posed this question about the removal of mouse-over text (tool tip text) over at the news thread. I found it interesting that most comments on the news are positive, which is starkly different from the response we’re seeing here at the forum.
Another drastic change was the removal of MS Word pasting. Apparently the WordPress does not care for tables, as most people were in the habit of creating tables in Word and pasting them as is in Visual Editor (which used to work fine as far as I could tell, though I wasn’t using it).
All along, I was under the incorrect impression that the next update to the Visual Editor should bring the ability to create tables. Based on what we have seen, tables are apparently frowned upon in blogging, even though they solve so many problems of image and text alignments.

Can a WordPress staff member please tell me how my (non-HTML/CSS savvy) users can:
– Add a border to an image
– Add margining to an imageEx) My users add many sponsor logos to one of their pages to thank attendees of a gala they hold. In the past they could (in the least) use margining to tweak the location of the image so it appeared somewhat aligned next to other images… Now, I’m spending an hour out of my day going through their page and manually adding CSS styling because the option was removed from the GUI.
This doesn’t make any sense to me.
-
Just giving my desperate vote as so many bloggers above
for “give us back the percentage option”.I have two blogs, and many friends run two or more.
And I spend many hours in my job, so I really dont have time to read
all these posts. So please, inform us when all this ends.
Thank you, http://pandoxeio.wordpress.com and
http://gymnapodia.wordpress.com -
I use Irfan View and MS Paint to do both, add a border and add spaces on the image. You would then upload the final image to the WordPress.

Too much work for a picture!
In my first blog I have at least 6-7 photos in every post. In many post I have 14-15.
It could take me ages to do that! -
For my immediate needs, while I shop around for better alternatives for hosting my blog, I am going to resort to learning to live without the wonderful convenience of the GUI in the old “Advanced Settings,” and I will be brushing up on my HTML/CSS skills using:
style=”border: 1px solid black; margin: 6px 2px,
or whatever appropriate variety of numbers, for my images.
How sad. -
We shouldn’t need to be finding alternative solutions to something that was previously available. Some one at WP please explain to me and others how this can possibly be considered as progress or improvement. It is neither, it is the needless removal of functionality!
-
Interesting also that all responses now seem to be turned off – even from the previously helpful timethief and raincoaster!

Image Resize is still available, found it late last night after some struggling and this is the first time I have had the time to reply, please excuse the short instructions
Late last night there was an Edit function when you clicked on the pencil thing on the image in the Post – that link is gone today – great job someone
I did find the scale function by going to the media library and clicking on the “Edit function and the scale image was hidden under some other things (if you don’t have a wide screen it looks like you are screwed) – no ability to scale by percentage – but you can change the pixel size and it will keep the same aspect ratio
So the current work around (that sucks) seems to be to have two tabs open one for the Post and one for the Medial Library.
-
I am not sure why they can’t just add the advanced settings to the options when the pencil is clicked. None of this makes any sense.
Not everyone knows html and wouldn’t know what they were looking at if they tried to figure out how.
-
It would have been helpful if, in addition to giving some advance notice of intent to drastically alter the image function, that WP would have provided the appropriate instructions in the Media/Images help sections.
There are plenty of quirks that need explanation or fixing. For example, on the new in-post image edit (the “pencil” button) pop-up, the “edit” function for the image allows for scaling of the original image apparently only ONCE.
I uploaded an image of 980×710 pixels and inserted it as a “full-size” image via the media uploader. I subsequently used the in post image edit/scaling function to reduce it to 576×422. Fine. It worked. Later I went to adjust the scaling down further to 512×375. Hit the scale and update buttons, saved my draft post, did a “preview,” and NOTHING changed. Why?
This an example of a problem either not seen and fixed, or if intentional, not explained in the appropriate help documentation.

WordPress, please return all image editing functionality that has been removed. Immediately would be good. Perhaps roll back to what it was a few days ago and only introduce changes when they can happen without removing existing functionality.
By default images come in at page width or something proportionate to that. This means a 3:1 portrait image is nine times greater in area than a 3:1 landscape image. I used the % resize feature to change image size according to aspect ratio so the area of each image was consistent. The new resizing method is welcome but not sufficient. Resizing by eye does not lead to consistent results from image to image let alone post to post.
@Auxclass, the functionality you describe is still available from the [Edit Image] button after you click the pencil icon. It has no effect as far as I can see. Even if it works, I presume it will resize the underlying image rather than the image on screen. This would certainly have to be the effect from the media library. You should be able to specify an image size on screen and have the image expand to full size when someone clicks on it.
-
In addition to the problems encountered when trying to rescale an image the second time, I lost the “open image in another window/tab” attribute that I had earlier added manually via the “link” function on the visual editor toolbar. I also lost the hover caption that I had previously added the same way via toolbar. Had to REDO these two functions then save to get them back the way they had been when I worked on the image the first time. Twice as much work if I have to redo multiple image attributes when I attempt to do a simple re-scaling of a single image!
WordPress, is it really worth p*ssing off your long-time members who do intensive image editing in order to pander to an newer clientele, i.e., the tablet and “mobile” users? Can’t the needs of all types of users be accomodated with, say, two levels of functionality such as “basic” and “advanced?”

Dear Admin,
Wordpresshttp://gibralterisspanish.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/urdu-post/
Firstly, the old sytem of Visual Editor was much better. This new system is a total confusion and nobody wants it.
I have just posted an Urdu Article and I want to fortify it with a rectangular frame, (like a picture frame) which seems to be impossible under the new Editing System.
In the old system, it was easy to do. It was also possible to determine the thickness of the rectangular frame around the post / picture.
Please let me know how to add a rectangle around my above post.
Thanks.
