Image Scaling down to 300px
-
My blog used to render images on desktop fine. It would automatically size them to the width of the page. Now, select images on pre-existing posts are getting shrunk down to 300px. I’m not sure why. I didn’t do anything to change Media settings. I actually have two blogs where this is happening:
https://troutrageous.com/2024/11/catching-up-with-leigh-smith.html
https://tenkaraangler.com/2024/11/13/fishing-with-maria/
PC Desktop / Google Chrome Browser

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I was wondering if anybody had any advice? I tried upsizing the “Medium” image size in the Media settings, and that didn’t work either. This wasn’t an issue as of a day or so ago, this just happened sort of overnight the other day. Was there a recent Word Press update that might have caused this?
If it helps, I use Independent Publisher 2 on the one blog, and Aquene on the other. -
Troutrageous! What a great domain name! :D
I don’t have Chrome, but on my Win10Pro PC using Firefox latest, all the images in those posts span the full width of the content column. (temporary screenshots)
I can check in a few minutes in Brave… No, Brave behaves the way you describe in Chrome. But the first image in https://troutrageous.com/2024/11/catching-up-with-leigh-smith.html does span the full column width. (temporary screenshot) Same behavior on the other post you linked to.
Can you check your image settings for that first image in the Post Editor and compare it with the Bar image? Screenshots from the Post Editor would be helpful. Thanks.

OK, the same behavior is happening in Vivaldi, which is another Chromium browser. My educated guess is that it’s browser related, but what is actually causing it, I don’t know.

Spoke too soon, it looks like a WordPress core issue.

Thank you for for this! I was driving myself crazy trying to figure it out. Seems like there’s a bit of finger pointing in that ticket…. it’s a WP problem, no it’s a Chromium problem, etc… but I’ll follow that ticket for updates unless somebody else has something to add here. Appreciate your responses. :)

Hi,
I have the same problem on edmbeat.ca on something I have in draft. The center aligned photos are all shrinking in preview on desktop view. This did not happen with my earlier blog.
-
Hi – I went into your links above and at least the first one looked fine in terms of photo sizes. Did you something to fix them? I’m curious as I have the same problem on an unpublished post for edmbeat.ca. It seems to be a new issue as last time I posted I did not have this problem.
-
Hi guys,
I managed to fix it on my blog, which was having a shrinkage problem ONLY on centered images. I found this code somewhere: .wp-block-image img { max-width: none; } and added it by selecting the photos in question, block editor, advanced, and then pasted the above into CSS. All my centered photos are okay now in Chrome! Pheww. I was having a minor nervous breakdown. I hope this works for everyone else.

I forgot to mention that the code I pasted in above creates a limit for the image size. I think the reason they were being shrunk down was there was no limit to their width and so that created an error in which WP just made them tiny.

Looking at your posts now in Brave, the images are no longer resizing smaller. Can you confirm that this issue is resolved for you?
If you read this forum thread from the beginning you might have noticed that this was a bug introduced in the last version of WordPress™ that was rolled out, 6.7. However, apparently a fix is being rolled out or has already been rolled out.
If you are still having an issue with images auto-resizing smaller, I suggest you open a new forum thread so that the folks here aren’t getting unnecessary notifications. You can do that at https://wordpress.com/forums/?new=1 Cheers.

Everything looks good again in Chrome!!! Phew. Thanks so much for keeping us up to speed on the issue. I’ll mark this incident as resolved.
