Image size

What is the optimum size of image I should be uploading to my WordPress blog? I have read somewhere that it depends on the theme you are using, so:
    – how can I tell which theme I am using?
    – is it possible to change the theme on my existing blog? what impact does this have on the hundreds of posts I have done to date?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @peterwebscott. Let’s see…

About the image, the Image Block is built for high-quality images. Of course, you should see if you can afford (storage-wise) to have all images in high quality, but you can upload high-quality images without impacting your viewers, here’s how it works:
If you upload an image 1024px wide, WordPress will automatically create versions of the image in 768, 300, and 150. So, based on each user’s device screen and/or internet bandwidth, the server will feed the user the version that best suits the user.

how can I tell which theme I am using?

If you open your blog page while logged in, you see this in the lower right corner:

is it possible to change the theme on my existing blog? what impact does this have on the hundreds of posts I have done to date?

Yes. Go to Appearance > Themes. You can see a live demo for any theme to see what it looks like. About the impact on your blog, you might need to do some major changes and tweaks after changing the theme, but it all depends on what theme you had and which one you’ll choose.

  • Hi there,

    – how can I tell which theme I am using?

You can tell what theme you are using by visiting Appearance > Themes from your dashboard. The theme that you currently have activated is the first one listed with the activated banner under it:

The theme you are currently using is the Twenty Eleven Theme.

    – is it possible to change the theme on my existing blog? what impact does this have on the hundreds of posts I have done to date?

You can definitely change the theme on your existing blog, and it will not affect the actual content of the posts you have published. The only thing it will affect is the design and layout of how those posts are presented on your site.
