Image size and control?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, How could I see the file size of each image I have stored in wordpress? I would like to know this so I can control them to avoid reaching the 3GB limit.
Also, is there a general way to reduce file size for multiple photos if needed?
Finally, if I delete a photo that is attached to a post from the media library will it still show in the post?

    Thank you,
    Juan

The media library doesn’t display the file size.

But since you’ve only published three posts so far, you needn’t bother with the images you have uploaded: the amount of space you’ve used is insignificant. Just make sure you don’t waste your space from now on. There’s no point uploading 3264px wide images when you display them at 300px. Use an image editing application or an online tool to downsize copies of your images to the pixel width you want on the post, and upload and insert these copies. Saving space apart, this will also mean faster loading, plus better quality on the post (images downsized by WP lose some color and sharpness).

Deleting an image from the media library removes it from your storage space, so the image will no longer show in your post (its URL will link to a non-existing file, so you’ll see an X or a ? in place of the image).
