I want to change the background on my Twenty ten theme but nothing is suitable. What size image would work?

Hello there,
Your best bet is to use an image that is 940px in width. Also, you should optimize the image, so it has a resolution of 72px. The instructions for image optimization can be found here:

Hi,
I thought I should let you know that when I followed your advice to check out the image optimization site, I managed to become infected with something called ‘Astromenda’ which apparently is a Trojan and will cause my PC to crash. This happened when I tried to upload a background image. I have tried to uninstall it myself, but with no luck. God knows what will happen now.
Just thought I would tell you so other people don’t get caught… -
Oh no!
That WordPress.com link I gave you doesn’t contain any malware. Astromenda is usually picked up during downloads. Regardless of how your poor computer became infected, it is a huge inconvenience, I’m sure.
