image sizes

  WordPress auto resizes my images too small for the space allowed, regardless of what size the original image is.
  I know how to resize the image back up to a decent size after it is inserted, but this is very time consuming and annoying to do. Is there something else i can do to stop this happening?
  Or should I change themes to one that is compatible with my existing content?
  My theme is Oxygen.

  I just discovered the files size options under “attachment display settings” in “insert media”
