Largest possible is the width of the post column.
When you are about to insert an image you have uploaded, the right column includes alignment, link and size options (thumbnail, medium, large and full size). For largest possible, you select the full size option. Full size means original width, if the original is narrower than the post column, or scaled down to the width of the post column, if the original is wider.
If you don’t find this enough in the theme you’re using, you can select a wider theme (for instance Nishita).

By the way, your blog front requires a lot of scrolling down, and that’s not very user friendly; I would suggest you use the more tag to truncate the posts.

    Your image here is http://skippinggirldesign.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/sue_6061_rufous-in-nest.jpg
    size: 1200px × 1920px

In your post, you have it linking to an attachment page rather than linking to the media file. The attachment page is the same size as your theme. If you link to the media file (or edit to make it “link to image”) instead, it will open much larger, plus with a magnifying glass to make it viewable the full size of 1200 by 1920.

Too big for my screen in one go.

Even your 640 x 1024 on the attachment page is quite large.

By uploading such large files, which are difficult to view on one screen you are wasting storage space. You should compress your images and size them more appropriately for viewing on the web.

    Optimize Your Images
