Image Sizing in Gallery

  • Unknown's avatar

    My website is http://www.imshreyapatel.com

    1) I want my images under gallery ( Example: https://imshreyapatel.com/headshots/ ) to be full page with full resolution. More bigger than it is showing now.

    2) In live chat, I was told that the user can right click on the photo and open it in a new tab and click on the image again for it to be full size. I want to disable that. I want the user to click on the photo and open it as a slideshow full screen instead of opening the image in a new tab. Is that possible?

    Please help, much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Shreya

Ippo, https://wordpress.com/themes/ippo/ being a Premium theme may have some tricks up its sleeve that I am not familiar with, so it may also be beneficial to post in the special Premium theme forum for assistance. The link to the forum is on that Theme showcase page under Support

As far your questions in general:
    1) This can be accomplished if you either insert your images as individual photos (i.e. no Gallery, so no Photo Carousel). Alternatively, edit the Gallery and change the Gallery layout/style to “Thumbnail Grid” and choose one column at the largest size available. Note that “full size” means the available width of your current theme template, not the full size image.

    2) it is not possible to disable this browser behavior.

And I overlooked that you posted this in the CSS Customization forum, so hopefully someone with more CSS experience will come along and reply.

    Hi Jennifer,

thank you so much for your help and your advice. The 1 column idea is super. I tried it, but it is only showing me one image for some reason instead of all the images. Do you know why? Is it because the photos are bigger resolution?

    Thanks again :)

Hello again and you are welcome.

Looking at the code on that page it seems you also chose “Thumbnail Grid”and “Full Size” or “Large” in addition to 1 column, so I’m not sure why those other images are not showing as they should. Stranger still is that if you click on that single image, all the other images appear in the Photo Carousel.

I’ve tagged this for Staff attention as I am also getting this behavior on my test site previewing Ippo. I also suggest that if you haven’t yet, you might want to post in the Ippo theme forum.

  • Hi @patelshreya01, the CSS to make your content images extend outside their content area would be quite tricky, and you would likely have trouble with responsiveness.

Since this theme does not have full sized images (except on the front page template) have you thought about using a different theme that is designed that way instead? You will want to click on theme demos and confirm the theme works the way you want.

Also: bear in mind full-screen images are going to get cropped and what not depending on screen sizes. Content images will always fit the screen they are on. So for full-page, featured images, be sure you’re using images that are OK to crop a bit.

  • Also, as to why those shortcode options are not working properly, let me check on that and get back to you. I think it could be something with your theme.

  • Okay, we found a bug and have filed a report. There’s a workaround though:

    – Head to https://imshreyapatelcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-media.php

    – Set “large” to a max width of 1400 & save changes

    – Update the gallery in your post to use “large” instead of “full size” images

    That should do the trick.

Do note though, this gallery still won’t be able to display full size like the featured images on the front page of this theme. But I hope that will help anyhow.
