Image transfer

    Hi,

I have wordpress.org for my blog, hosted in some hosting company.
But after I think over and over, it is better to be hosted by wordpress.com and add-on the domain mapping.
Save my time for installing and upgrading.

The posts, pages and categories can be transfered using Export and Import feature.
But I do not know how to transfer the images?
Manual transfer (wedb upload) one by one is not preferred, because I already have many pages, more than 100 images. And updating the image link in every post is very time consumpting too.

Is there any way to transfer the images without needing to update the posts to the images?

    Please advice.

    Thank you.

I would be interested to know the solution too. Some day I may want to port my entire content onto my own hosting if some must-have features such as Email Notification and ChatBox aren’t going to be integrated with the theme/widget. After over 200 plus post it would be a nightmare to manage the links esp when the photos are all stored on wp.com.

There seems to be no information anywhere to describe how to transfer images uploaded to wp.com to a self-hosted blog site. This would seems to be a perfect and much needed entry in the FAQ. Does anyone know how to do this?

I would also like to know how. I would maybe ask on the wordpress.org forums, tho they may be a better help. But, I believe when you import your blog posts etc. , it uploads your pictures but I’m not sure about that.

The WordPress Import/Export does not transfer images. It keeps however the image url so that images appear as long as they are available at the original hosting.

That’s great for the short term, but when I close the wp.com account all the links will go dead. I can’t be the first person to ask this…surely there is a way to do this!

FWIW most bloggers do not “close” their wordpress.com blogs when moving to self-hosted wp.org installs. They set their wordpress.com blogs to private to avoid the problem of duplicate contents. Then all their posts which they have left in the private wp.com blog for backup purposes are hotlinked so, there is no disappearing image problem.

@rideatmoonlight – that is incorrect. Private blogs cannot be hotlinked to.

    @Mark
My blog must have been an exception then because all of my images were there for months on end, until I deleted the blog. Then they disappeared and I had to upload them individually again.

Will the new upgrade address this issue?

OOPS! My blog was set to accept visitors but not search engines. Was that the determining factor?

The new upgrade is not for discussion here.

We stopped private blogs having images that could be linked to for privacy reasons. It was noted here in the forums because of this. Your blog was not an exception (none of them).

Is there a solution to this problem then Mark?

No huh? I guess then the only way is to wget the entire blog in one fell swoop?
