How do I remove unwanted image title?
-
How do I disable the automatic EXIF-ImageDescription read-out which is used for the image title by WordPress?
After reuploading an image/file (which has been deleted hours before from the Media Library) it keeps counting and adding numbers to the file name/URL, how do I avoid this unnecessary annoyance?

Sorry but I’m not sure I follow. Could you send me the URL of an example image you’re running into trouble with?
If you can let me know the details of what it is you’d like to remove we can help sort it out. Thanks!

The original filename was/is “Kroatien-TestBild192235-0” and the title was automatically set by wordpress – but I prefer using the filename, or my own input, as image-title. -
Okay, I’m not sure how the title is being set with the camera data here. It may be something unique about your camera’s EXIF output. You can always adjust the title by editing the image. You’ll find that one here.

As I said, WordPress sets the “ImageDescription” (which is “5MP-9G4 Digital Camera” in this case) from the image’s EXIF-data as title, without asking me for it.
I still have two main problems:
1. When uploading the picture directly into an blog-article, the attachment-url is the same as the image-title, and that (the URL) can’t be changed!
2. Though it says “Delete Permanently”, it seems like it’s saving a backup somewhere, cause there are numbers added to the file name every time after another upload of the same file, resulting in the new unwanted file name “kroatien-testbild192235-0(+1)”. -

Jeez, I deleted these pictures three days ago and there’s still some invisible entry/backup of them in my Media Library! Why can nobody simply get rid of them?
-
You can change the title of the image in the media library, but you cannot change the slug (or URL title) from the original upload. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
WordPress.com will add an incremented number to any media file you upload in the same month using the same name. So, you cannot upload a new image to replace the filename/URL of an old image. There is not a way around that.

Thanks for the information.
Is it possible to implement/offer an option which avoids the usage of the EXIF-info?
(Or do I have to create an extra thread for this in the Ideas-forum?)So I have to wait until next month to use the original filename again?
Is there a particular reason why WordPress saves the name of every previous deleted file/image for such a long time? (Can’t see any use if it’s storing just the names but not the file itself.) -
I can pass on the idea to exclude EXIF data, but for now I recommend just using a photo editor to remove it
The file name is stored in the rewrite system (which generates the name for the images attachement pages), so it’s stored just like a post or page.

Thanks, I’d be glad to see something (optional) which could disable the automatic use of images’ EXIF data.
Yeah I know and I wish there would be a way around that, but why is it still stored there after “Delete Permanently” for a whole month, I still don’t get the idea?!

Sorry for the delay! Basically, it’s because the image attachment page still exists, so the slug can’t be used again. It’s the same with posts and regular pages, except at this time the WordPress software doesn’t have a way of directly managing attachment pages.
-
Well, new month and it still keeps adding numbers…
Why isn’t it possible to do something against it?
And I still heard no sane reason why the image attachment page is left (forever) after deletion. -
-
Could some site admin at least fix it manually please? (Kinda disappointing that nothing else happens…)
-
If you remember what the file URL for the image was, I can manually remove it. Otherwise, we’ll need to wait for the system to take care of it.
-
Remember? I’m forced to see it every time cos WP keeps reproducing it with unwanted added numbers…
And the system obviously won’t take care of it as it’s already a new month (according to designsimply’s statement). The Image-URLs would be the following:
http://mk3790.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/kroatien-bild###%5B1-10%5D.jpg
### = 126, 131, 155, 159, 213, 233
[1-10] = annoying WP incremental numbers -
Yeah, those no longer exist in the system, so it looks like there’s a bug floating around somewhere. I’ll pass this along to the bug trackers.

Thanks for the support – good to hear that this behaviour isn’t usual and I hope they’ll find the cause soon.
