Image uploading for most recent version of iOS

  • Unknown's avatar

Some users have said that wordpress’ image uploader is not working with the most recent version of iOS. They click the upload button and it does nothing, rather than prompting them for whether they would like to use an existing photo or take a new one with the camera. Has anyone heard of any other users having issues with this functionality?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. Are you talking about the mobile app? The forum and support docs for the mobile apps are over on the WordPress.org website. I think that will be the best place to ask about that. Note that you’ll first need to register a WordPress.org username before you can post in that forum: https://apps.wordpress.org/support/

I appreciate the response! I just added the htaccess file to see if that solves the problem. But the users having issues aren’t using the app; they are just using their mobile browser to access the blog. I will post on that forum in any case. Thanks for the help!

  • Another user with a similar problem whom I answered specifically mentioned using the app, which is why I assumed that might be the case with you also.

If it’s the mobile browser, please tell us exactly which browser and version you’re using, and also which iOS version you’re using. If you know of other users also having this issue, it would be best if they also post to the forums themselves with the necessary details.

You could try clearing the browser cache and cookies and also make sure the browser is updated to the latest version. This could be a case of operating system-browser incompatibility rather than a site issue.

The problem has been occurring for users on iOS 8.4. For the users who face the problem, it occurs for both safari and chrome. I have used another device operating on iOS 8.4 and it worked on both browsers. So it seems to be device specific, rather than being caused by the OS or the browser. Unfortunately I have not encountered this problem myself, so I only have the reports to go off of.

  • I’m just curious: why are you posting here if you don’t have the problem yourself? I would strongly recommend that the users having the problem post here themselves, as troubleshooting via a middleman is not as effective.

I’ll tag this for staff so they can be aware of the issue, but please ask the users involved to post here themselves if possible as it would make the process simpler, I think.

    Hi there,

If this issue is happening on a self-hosted WordPress site (not hosted here at WordPress.com) and the issue is in the browser rather than the WordPress app, you’ll need to continue troubleshooting that on the WordPress.org forums kokkieh mentioned. WordPress.com staff only have the tools and access to help with those sorts of issues on sites hosted at WordPress.com, or if the issue is related to one of the WordPress apps, so from what you’ve described there’s not much I can do to help with the issue those users are having. Best of luck!

I’m the developer for a start-up that is running with wordpress; the users themselves aren’t really invested enough to want to come troubleshoot. The site is indeed self-hosted so I apologize for posting this in the wrong forum. Thanks to both of you for kindly pointing me in the right direction! You seem to have a great community here.
