Image Uploads

Hi,
I have read so many different instructions regarding SEO, and keywords, tags, categories…….etc etc etc etc.
However, whenever I try and put any of it into practice, I am seeing a different screen to the youtube videos I have watched.
I would like to add alt text to my images, but cannot even see it as an option..could you please tell me how to do this? (I have been inserting them directly into my post).
Furthermore, the SEO business…what? ( :P )…It’s throwing me completely. How can I alter the search result (I understand that I can change the order my words show in google results..?). Also, with regards to keywords, are they some sort of link or do I just include some ‘key’ words into my text so that people will find my post when searching for that particular subject? Am I missing any key part of SEO before I publish my first post??
Thanks!

re: search engine discoverability
It can take weeks for search engines to index your site content. Please read this support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ so you know we have no control over search engines positioning or appearance in the SERPs (search engine page results).
To verify blog ownership of a WordPress.com hosted blog with the major search engines you must use this process > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this please.WordPress.com automatically supplies sitemaps for our blogs to search engines – we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines

Take control of your site and how it appears in search engines.
https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2016/06/02/seo-settings-panel/To gain search engine attention, I recommend that you start publishing posts (not pages) https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ frequently. That’s because it can take weeks for search engines to index content in a new blog and/or to re-index content under a new URL.

Hi there,
To add alt-text to your images there are three options:
1) In the new editor, when you upload an image there’s an Edit button at the bottom. Click that and you will have the opportunity to add alt text and an image description to the image before inserting it into your post.
2) If you’ve already inserted an image you can switch to the HTML view of the editor and add the alt-attribute directly in the HTML if you know how, or
3) You can edit the image directly in the media library to add this. For now the media library can only be accessed via the WP-Admin dashboard, here:
https://conservationistkrissy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
As for the rest, @timethief has provided all the relevant links we have on SEO. Pay special attention to this one:
That article outlines the stuff you as site owner can do to make your content more search engine-friendly. The rest we do for you in the background.

Thank you.
The ‘new editor’ is where? I edit and manage my account using the sitemap page.
I have one further question. I would like to title my home page as ‘home’ in so far as having it show up as ‘home’ in the menu. But I do not want ‘home’ to actually show up on the page, I just want the rest of my text to show.
Cheers.

The new editor is the one you use if you go via My Site ->Blog Posts or click the Edit link directly on your site.
To do that, edit your menu and add the untitled page to the menu. Then you can edit the menu label for that page to show in the menu as Home. Let me know if you need more help with this.
