Image Warehousing – hosting images outside of the WordPress media library
-
We have all of our images stored on a media server external to WordPress for our CRM. As our new website will be linked with our CRM my developer is suggesting that instead of hosting images in the WordPress media library that we just have links to the images on our media server. Does anyone have any experience with this. I am being told two stories 1. that this is the best way to serve up the images 2. that it is not a good idea to have the images outside of the WordPress media library.
I should note that as we are an art gallery the website will be very heavy on images. We need them to be a decent size so clients can see the detail of the artworks but also don’t want the website to be super slow.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @parnellgallery, we automatically host the media library images on our media servers and CDN so they’ll be delivered to readers as quickly as possible. This is how we have our service configured.
Can you confirm whether this site is hosted here with us? If it isn’t you might want to ask in the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/ instead.
