Image Widget

    Hi there!

When I click the image (it has an attached URL) on right side bar inserted there as an image widget it does not open the attatched link in a new tab. How to make it open in a new tab?

    Hi,

Whether it opens in a new tab or a new window would depend upon your browser settings. Changing your browser settings would have no effect upon the behavior of the image widget on a visitor’s device/browser setup.

Thank you MusicDoc, but no… it does not work!

I have checked my tab opions for both Mozilla and Opera, and they are set to open a link in a new tab! but they still open my widget picture in the same tab.

There must be something else, maybe to see the properties of the widget picture in a box with the option “Open the link in a new tab” … but this dialog does not appear when I take the process to insert in my blog the widget picture.

I have checked my tab opions for both Mozilla and Opera, and they are set to open a link in a new tab!

I understand. And I’ve been recently wondering why the Firefox setting at Tools > Options

Open new windows in new tab instead

gives the same results regardless of whether it is checked or not. And the result is that when I click on a link (including an image link to a media file or attachment page) the page I am on switches to the link URL page, instead of either opening a new window or opening a new link as I would expect.

However, these results are independent of WordPress.com. The tabs issue I’ve jut described is the same regardless of where I am on the web.

There must be something else, maybe to see the properties of the widget picture in a box with the option “Open the link in a new tab” …

Although you might be onto something that I’m missing, I don’t think this is a WordPress.com issue.

Please feel free to add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

    Correction. I mean to say:

And the result is that when I click on a link (including an image link to a media file or attachment page) the page I am on switches to the link URL page, whether that option is checked or not, instead of either opening the page in new window or opening the page in a new tab depending upon the setting, as I would expect.

In other words, depending upon the setting I choose at FF Tools > Options > “Open new windows in new tab instead,” I’d like the link to either open in a new window or open in a new tab, leaving the present window or tab open. But it doesn’t behave this way. Instead it simply switches the present URL to the link URL, regardless of the setting.

    Correction:

I now find that clicking on a link sometimes opens the link URL in a new window or new tab, depending upon my browser setting at Tools Options. However, most of the time it doesn’t. I have no idea why it only works sometimes. For example, it works properly with links on a WordPress.com theme guide, but fails to work with links on a WordPress.com support document page.

Is your image simply a link to a different web page that you want to open in the new window? If so you want your link to that web page to indicate target=” blank” to open a new tab.

    <img src=”etc….”>

And the easiest way to compose it is to use a draft post and insert the image and its link and its “open in new page setting” (if in visual mode) or add the target=”blank” to the link if in text mode.

IF you just want the image to open in a new page in a larger size, that’s a different situstiin.

Oops of course I forgot to use the “code” button. Your code uses the target=”blank” like this:

    <a href="http://Wordpress.com/" target="blank"><img src="myimagefile.jpg"></a>

    @ yourcrony,

My first question to you should have been the following: Are you referring to a WordPress.com website, and if so which one? You’re forum profile identifies no primary website.
