    Hi Liz,
Not able to be informative in techy way…am struggling in early days and am in a daze. My blog Screaming Under Water ended up on PrivatePerson Surfacing or was it Private Person Surfacing,… my original attempts were on privatepersonblog …. sorry to present you with such a mess.

I’ve been trying to work through the exercises on Fundamentals etc but my ignorance of tech terms and way around use of social media forms is a major handicap. Can’t work between different sites/pages at same time …my autism is acutely apparent in these situations as i’m able to cope much better in more familiar terrains.

I’m looking forward to sorting these issues out with you and appreciate your help. Sincerely

  • No worries :)

I’ll get you sorted out. Let’s work through each question one at a time.

The account you’re contacting me from has 2 sites connected to it. They are
    1. privatepersonblog.wordpress.com
    2. privatepersonsite.wordpress.com

When you login to WordPress.com, click the ‘My Sites’ button in the upper left corner of the screen. This is where you designate which site you’re working on.

Your dashboard will load down the left of the screen.

From your dashboard you will edit the site. This is where you can configure the menu, add new posts or pages, customize your theme options and more.

Your post, “Screaming under water!” was added to privatepersonsite.wordpress.com.

Here is a direct link to view that post:
    https://privatepersonsite.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/screaming-under-water/

If the image displayed is not the one that you intended, we can change it.

Our learning guide is filled with great tips. The tools and terms will become more familiar with time.

Reply with your next question(s) and I’ll be happy to help!

    Thanks Liz.
I was hoping to have all the blogs I’ve posted so far, 3 all up, appear on the same site as they are all related.

The learning guide is good but I feel that I lack basics and have difficulty with developing continuity … that is how i ended up with 2 sites.

Is it possible to transfer the posts to the one site?

It seems strange that the title : Screaming Under Water! is at the bottom of the post shouldn’t it be the heading at the top?

I won’t include any more questions now as i’ll need time to deal with these.
I’ve picked up a few Word Press from the local Library today so i look forward to checking them out.

I’m glad you found the post I mentioned but have you located the other two? I ask just so that I know you’ve found them and can see what a debacle i’ve made thus far.

Apologies for my ineptitude i’m sure that apart from my autism my age at 69 years ( meaning that apart from using PCs as a word processor and for researching papers and sending emails ) I’ve no sense of tech lingo and processes being second nature… all so foreign.

Thanks so much for your help.

  • Is it possible to transfer the posts to the one site?

Yes. I’ll walk you through this step-by-step.

Please confirm which site address you would like to have all of your work on:
    privatepersonblog.wordpress.com OR privatepersonsite.wordpress.com?

It seems strange that the title : Screaming Under Water! is at the bottom of the post shouldn’t it be the heading at the top?

Each theme is unique in how it displays posts, headers, images, etc… Each of your sites is using a different theme right now.

privatepersonblog.wordpress.com is using Twenty Fourteen Theme.

privatepersonsite.wordpress.com is using The Ryu Theme.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Liz,
Thanks for clarifying. Whilst I like the appearance of The Ryu I think it may be better to place that post on the Twenty Fourteen Theme along with the other two.

    Hi Liz,
have created another mess… replied to post on a blog by Luke Beardon put up by Visual Vox in Under the Radar…. unfortunately I placed my name on the reply and my Gravatar came up next to it exposing my identity… I need to have this Reply stopped or the name replaced with my Privatepersonblog title.

I need to maintain my anonymity.

  • We can get to work with moving your posts to 1 site. Please let me know which site address you want to use going forward.

Regarding your Gravatar, I’ve closed this thread. as I can help you here. It’s easier to keep all of our communication in one place.

Check the details listed in your account profile as this is what will be displayed publicly. Let me know if you need help changing those details.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Liz,
privatepersonblog would be the best to move the only post from the other site to…..it also appears more established in format. Thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

The details are fine and maintain anonymity.

  • I’ve moved the “Screaming Under Water!” post to the correct site. You’ll find it here.

When you load https://privatepersonblog.wordpress.com/ into your browser, you will see that you land on a home page. This page is titled About. In the upper right corner, you will see there’s a menu with 2 items (About and Blog). If you click on the Blog link, you’ll be taken to all of your posts.

As continue adding new posts they will go there automatically. You do not need to do anything but Publish them.

It is completely up to you, I was just working with what you already had setup on the page, but, if you’d like, we can configure the site so that your most recent posts will display as your homepage instead of the About page. We could leave the About page in the menu so that visitors can still access that page easily to read about you and the site.

The About page needs some love from you. Go ahead and add some context to that page. Click here to get started. Click on the About page to open the editor. Add your text and publish.

The Twenty Fourteen Theme supports a featured content option and other features that you ay be interested in. Take a look at the site demo and read over the instructional page.

This is the demo site: https://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/
This is the instructional guide: https://wordpress.com/themes/twentyfourteen

Let me know if you’d like to incorporate any features that you find.

I’ll be happy to answer any follow up questions :)

    Hi Liz,
I’ve finally written my About Page.

I like your idea of configuring the set so that my most recent posts will display as my homepage and leave the About page in the Menu.

If I want to have a different photo to go with each blog is that possible?

Is it possible for the image to take up more space than it now does?

Or is that related to my choice of format?

    Thanks

  • I like your idea of configuring the set so that my most recent posts will display as my homepage and leave the About page in the Menu.

This setting is is found under Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays. I’ve made this change for you. Now your posts are going to be displayed on your homepage. I’ve also updated the menu for you.

If I want to have a different photo to go with each blog is that possible?

Absolutely! Photos are a great way to enhance your blog.
This guide explains how you add media to your library:

This guide explains the visual post editor, and how you can add media into your posts:

You can retroactively add photos to the posts that are already published.

Or is that related to my choice of format?

Each theme uses and displays images differently. You can find out how your theme works with images in the Twenty Fourteen support guide. I suggest using featured images with your posts since your theme supports them.

    Hi Liz,
What I’ve written as my ” about’ post hasn’t appeared when I click on About.

I’d like to address before I move on to exploring the add media and visual editor links.

Why doesn’t my post introducing myself appear?

    Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

I spent a lot of time over my ‘ about’ page and am quite dismayed that it has disappeared into the ether.

It commenced something like this… Who am I ….it went on to give my understandings on trying to understand self.

  • Hello –

I’ve fixed up the menu. The About page is now linked to the text that you added. You can see that here: https://privatepersonblog.wordpress.com/private-person-surfacing/

While it was linked to the menu, the About page had not been updated. What happened, was you created a new page titled WHO IS PRIVATE PERSON SURFACING but the blank About page remained linked to your menu. I updated the correct page to be linked to the About text in the menu.

    How does that look?

  • Unknown's avatar

    that’s great Liz… thanks.
I feel free to move on to addressing the visual areas.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi Liz, I haven’t managed to add images/photos to my posts but I did manage to change my Header photo.

When in process of doing the latter i noticed that many Gravatar images appeared…those belonging to other people’s blogs such as
    the questioningaspie”‘s ?,( question mark)
    How did they get there?

A separate issue: After I hit Publish after previewing my post and I view it on my blog am I supposed to ” share” it via hitting the WordPress icon
    that sits alongside Twitter etc?
