  I’ve set a picture for each of the posts I’ve published but they don’t show up when I just go directly to the site. On the back end it looks as though they are set.

  I notice that your site has not been launched yet. This is likely causing the issue. To launch, go here: https://wordpress.com/settings/general/akalifeuk.wordpress.com

  And then scroll down to the “launch site” button:
